The dog days of summer are upon us! Soon the kids will be heading back to school and the crisp cool autumn air will be here! Ah! Fall!

Fall is our favorite time of the year! Crisp leaves, pumpkins to carve, football games, Quilt Shows to attend, and with the kids back in school, we have time to be creative! So, dust off the machines and let the quilting begin!

We have the shop packed full of wonderful designs, ideas, and projects to inspire the fall creative juices. Celebrating this year’s harvest is going to be easy with all the wonderful fall and holiday fabrics and gift items now at the shop.

Of course, we have our “Fall” plans packed with many exciting events, classes, and activities that you are not going to want to miss a one! Why not kick fall off with a quilter’s inspired celebration! Join us for our first ever “I Love Fabric” Sales Day Event. Isn’t it time to refresh the colors and textures of your fabric collection? The kids are heading back to school, now it’s your turn. Come join us in the classroom for some quilting inspiration and fun. To get us all reacquainted with our sewing machines, we have invited Claudia of Claudia’s Creations for a weekend of bonding with our Embroidery Machine. But hurry, you need to get signed up for this one right away, before time gets away.

September is National Sewing Month, so of course we have to honor our month with all kinds of fun. Join us for our Fall Fat Quarter Frenzy Sewing Retreat. Just you and a whole bunch of your sewing buddies hanging out in the classroom studio. It doesn’t get any better than that! And of course, we will all be wanting to redecorate our homes with the changing of the seasons. We will soon have all our “needful” fall gifts and home decor out to bring that perfect harvest feeling into your home.

“Ah, can you feel it!?!Fall is in the Air!

We are celebrating the month of August by honoring one of our favorite products in the shop!

Aurifil thread has been manufacturing a high-quailty 100% Egyptian Mako Cotton Thread since 1983. Each spool of Aurifil Cotton Mako is mercerized-this enables fiber’s contraction and increases the efficiency during the dyeing procedure. The result is high sheen thread with a great washing resistance uncomparable to other cotton threads on the market. This inimitable quality makes Aurifil the ideal, thread for quilting, sewing and embroidery, both by hand and machine.

Did you know that Country Traditions carries this wonderful thread in over 200 colors in the 50 weight spools and 72+ colors in the solid and variegated 28 weight spools? We are sure to have the perfect match for all your sewing needs. Not sure why you would want different weights or what weight is right for your project? Sign up for the TNT (Thread, Needle, Tension) class or ask us at the shop why we love Aurifil thread so much!

Now is the time!!!

September is National Sewing Month! While at first glance this may seem like just another wacky event manufactured by the greeting card industry, National Sewing Month was actually instituted to recognize the importance of the home sewing industry. At the request of the American Home Sewing & Craft Association, President Ronald Reagan, on September 21, 1982, declared the month of September to Nat iona l Sewing Month . Addi t iona l proclamations were made in 1983, 1984, 1985 and 1988. They state that “Tens of millions of Americans sew at home. Their efforts demonstrate the industry, the skill, and the self-reliance which are so characteristic of this Nation.”

There are many forms of “home” sewing that we can’t begin to list them all. There is embroidery, needlepoint, garment sewing, home dec, and of course, quilting. Just think of all the different machines, fabrics, supplies and notions that have been created just for our passion. Imagine how important fabric and sewing products are to our economy and how many businesses and people are supported by the “home sewing” industry. Home Sewing certainly deserves its own month.

President Reagan wasn’t the first president to recognize the importance of sewing. Do you know which president gave the following advice to his daughter?

“In the country life of America there are moments when a woman can have recourse to nothing but her needle for employment. When one is in dull company and it is poor taste to read, or simply leave, the needle is a valuable resource.”

Join the CountryTraditionsOnLine Facebook page in September to share your best guesses and/or to learn the answer. In the mean time, set some time aside and celebrate your passion this month.

The Passport program encourages travelers to explore Nebraska, collect stamps from participating attractions, and earn great prizes.

The 2014 Passport features over 80 attractions on 10 different theme tours. There’s something for everyone. Travelers have till September 30, 2014, to visit the attractions & redeem their stamps for some great prizes.

Country Traditions is honored to be a featured attraction stop in the Patchwork Passion theme tour. Hurry in today to pick up your passport and get started collecting your stamps.

When you hear the words PFAFF sewing machines, the phrase “Superior German Engineering” immediately comes to mind. In 1862, Georg Michael Pfaff, an instrument maker by trade, made his first sewing machine and founded the G.M. Pfaff sewing machine factory in Kaiserslautem, Germany.

The company started out manufacturing sewing machines for industrial use only. All that changed when the first PFAFF for home use was introduced in 1931. For 152 years, the PFAFF name has been synonymous with excellence in sewing.

PFAFF is one of the world’s leading manufacturers of sewing machines. Many of the PFAFF sewing machines are suited for the seamstress who wants to make more professional looking garments. Whether you are just starting to sew, are a professional seamstress, or an experienced quilter; PFAFF sewing machines will help you produce more finished looking garments, quilts, and embroidered projects that you can be proud of!

Are you sewing on a PFAFF?

PFAFF Celebrates OCTOBERFEST

If you are on the fence about taking a class or trying something new, here are a few benefits to think about.

Whether you are just starting out or an experienced quilter, there is always room for improvement. We offer classes for all skill levels, which means you can learn new techniques or simply brush up on your skills.

Doing something you enjoy can be a great stress reliever. Taking classes to increase your knowledge and skill will not only help you hone your skills, but it gives you an outlet to release any pent up tension and anxiety. Taking one or many of our classes will help you unwind while being creative, which is often associated with relaxing and de-stressing.

Improve and refine your sewing skills while socializing with others who enjoy the same hobby as you! By taking one or many of our classes you can meet other quilters. Our classes provide you the opportunity to learn new tips, tricks and techniques while meeting new people or catching up with old friends. Spend the day doing something you love and enjoying the company of others!

These are just a few of the benefits of taking a class at Country Traditions. Our classes are led by talented, experienced instructors who love what they do. For more information about our various classes and Class Newsletter visit:

5th Saturday Sale Day!

Have you heard the story of the five kernels of corn? This story about counting blessings could be a wonderful tradition to include with your family as you sit down to eat your holiday meal. Read the story and then invite family and friends to share why each person is grateful.

The Five Kernels of Corn

The story goes that once Thanksgiving became a holiday, the Pilgrims would start their meal with five kernels of corn on their plate. These five golden kernels represented all the pilgrims had to eat for the entire day during a difficult winter. The corn that remained was planted in the spring. At Thanksgiving the five kernels of corn were a reminder that many had nearly starved because of a lack of food. Each pilgrim would stand up and one by one pick up each kernel of corn and share five things they were thankful for on Thanksgiving.

To this day, many families place five kernels of corn on each plate to honor and remember the suffering and spirit of Thanksgiving of our Pilgrim ancestors. They also take turns sharing five blessings for which they are grateful.

Other ideas for counting blessings and giving thanks during the holiday are to include a Thanksgiving Bowl, Box or Wreath as a visual prompt to help everyone remember to count their blessings and express their gratitude.
