Fall 2018 Newsletter Page 3

Dear incoming freshmen,

Hello, last year I was a scared little freshmen like you. If there is one piece of advice I can give you it

would be to not procrastinate and get things done before the night they are due. For me this skill of

getting things done days in advance was not hard for me to develop because I already had it. But, if

you do not have it here are a few tips on how to break this horrible habit. Try using a planner this will

help you to see all of the assignments you have due for the upcoming month or week. I also

recommend using sticky notes and color. The color will help you to distinguish which class work goes

with what by giving it a certain color, the sticky notes will help you to place reminders wherever is

most convenient for you. I also recommend getting a calendar white board of some sort and writing

your schedule out on that. This will help you to see it again in a different way, this is also a more

likely tool you will use and look at. All of these tools will help you to achieve the goal of stopping

procrastination by having constant reminders of when things are due. Now, I understand that you may

think, “I work well under pressure” this is the biggest lie you can tell yourself. By cramming in the

night before to finish and assignment will cause you severe anxiety and panic when you realize it is

going to take you much longer than you thought it would. This is an unhealthy way to get your

assignments completed. Imagine how much less stress you will cause yourself by doing the

assignment a few days in advance or even getting a head star t of a due date. Use the due date as

an advantage rather than a way of knowing you have time, challenge yourself to get the assignment

done before the original due date. By doing this I promise you, that you will be a much happier

student by not procrastinating. This will also help you to get a better grade on the assignment by

taking your time and actually working on the assignment, instead of doing it just so you can get it

done. I wish you the best of luck this year.

Sincerely,

A non-procrastinator

My name is Nicole Munsey, and I am

from Zeeland, Michigan! I am the

middle child out five! I have 3 brothers

and 1 sister! I have 2 dogs named Tillie

Mae and Salem Tyrone. I am a

sophomore residential student! I am a

nursing major. My ultimate goal is to be

a physician’s assistant working in

either pediatric neurology or an

emergency room. I am in the pep band

here at Lourdes! I play the alto sax, and

I have been playing it since I was 9

years old! I am a part of the student

government senate here in campus,

TRiO tutor, and Bridge mentor.

Hello, my name is Ana Maria Vera and I am a sophomore studying early childhood education here at Lourdes University. When I do graduate, I plan to head back to my home state of Ca and pursue my Master’s Degree in Business Administration.

Some of my hobbies include reading, going on adventures with my favorite roommates, and spending time with my family back home. I am a huge fan of the Dodgers (bleed blue)!

I am a tutor/mentor for TRiO and I also work for the Office of Admissions here on campus. TRiO has been a huge part of my transition from high school to college. It has helped me open up and be more comfortable with myself!

Being the first year program our men and women have surpassed the expectations as a collegiate team. With our Ladies winning the first ever tournament in history we definitely made some noise. We have a huge support system from all over the nation and in Northwest Ohio. These young men and women have all the potential to become National Contenders not only in the future but this year as well. I am more proud to say not only are these young men and women outstanding athletes but they are showing to be outstanding students and young adults to help build a better community for Lourdes and

our Athletics. TRiO Student Bowlers: Alyssa McCall and Bryana Twining!

TRiO mentors this year have decided to put more emphasis on one on one mentoring with students. We have also planned some fun events for this semester, such as life skills seminars, game nights, MacQueen’s Orchard, Halloween movie night, a trip to the Toledo Museum of Art, and a Christmas party. All of these events are tailored to get students to socialize with other TRiO students as well as to get to know their mentors better. These events are great for students to attend in order to get TRiO credits and to experience something they have never done before. Our goal is to have more students attend our mentoring events to really get involved in TRiO. We look forward to seeing more students in TRiO and
