BDP catered its first event on

December 6, 1994. They are thrilled

to celebrate their 22th anniversary

this year!

For two decades, Big Delicious Planet has been

catering to the most distinguished clients and

discriminating palates: rock stars, celebrities, chefs,

actors, and even Barack Obama and His Holiness the

Dalai Lama.

From the very start, Big Delicious Planet has been

creating dishes that are delicious, beautifully presented,

and served in a gracious and friendly manner. Every

menu created is handcrafted to match your style and

taste.

BDP is happy about their long partnership with Catalyst

Ranch, Chicago’s most creative meeting space. Both

BDP and Catalyst Ranch know from experience that

success is in the details, and we work hard to get every

one right.

1994 BDP founded

2010 BDP moved into a rehabbed geothermal

building in West Town, built out an amazing

6800 sq. ft. kitchen.

2011 BDP opened a cafe, the Canteen.

2012 BDP planted a vegetable garden on two

vacant adjacent lots (see next page).

2013 BDP became the first caterer in the

country to earn 4 Star Certified Green

Restaurant status, and was named

“Greenest Caterer in America”.

O U R U R B A N F A R M

In March of 2012 we planted a spectacular vegetable &

herb garden on undeveloped land next to our kitchen.

We have 50 raised cedar beds in which we’re organically

growing more than 85 varieties of vegetables, herbs and

edible flowers. During Chicago’s frozen winters, we

continue growing a variety of herbs and microgreens

indoors under grow-lights.

Looking for a unique dinner? Dinners at our farm table

seat up to 24 people. Large cocktail receptions available

too!

BDP ’ S S U S T A I N A B I L I T Y M I S S I O N

BDP is very aware of the amount of waste that a catering

company can create, and is committed to creating a very low-

waste kitchen and sustainable business. We are a 4 Star

Green Certified Restaurant through the Green

Restaurant Association, which is the highest level

possible.

We have taken a detailed look at the way we do business,

and have made significant changes to become more

sustainable. Here are some of the things we’re doing:

•We compost all food scraps, which are picked up by a

service, and also put into our own compost in the garden.

•A biodiesel service picks up our used cooking oil.

•We have a waste recycling system.

•We use eco-friendly disposable goods, and trays and platters

which are recyclable.

•We encourage real platters over disposable.

•We’re in a geothermal building.

•Our cleaning chemicals meet the highest green standards.

•We’ve made huge improvements in regards to energy and

water efficiency, and chemical pollution.

•We organically grew over 75 vegetables & herbs in 2014.

•We have two beehives on our property.

•A local shelter picks up our leftovers twice a week.

•We are always looking to improve, and will continue to

make changes in order to become the highest rated green

caterer.
