Interested in Flipping Your Classroom? According to Educause, the flipped classroom is a pedagogical model in which the typical lecture and homework elements of a course are reversed. Short video lectures are viewed and other activities are completed by students at home before the class session, while in-class time is devoted to exercises, projects, discussions and other active learning activities.

Join Tina Rettler-Pagel and Nancy Woodward to get started in flipping your class!

• Thursday, October 16, 2014 – In the spirit of a flipped class, begin your work online to prepare for the first face-to-face class.

• Thursday, October 23, 2014 – 12:30 – 3:30 p.m. – Meet face-to-face in CETL

• Thursday, November 6 – 9:00-12:00 noon – Optional Technology Day for help in creating videos – CETL

• Friday, November 7, 2014 - 12:00-3:00 p.m. – Optional Technology Day for help in creating videos – CETL

• Thursday, November 13, 2014 – 12:30 – 3:30 p.m. - Meet face-to-face in CETL

You will leave the class with at least one unit of your course flipped!

Workshop Announcement: Improving Your Online Course (IYOC) – Quality Matters We are happy to announce that nationally recognized trainer Linda Jacoby from Minnesota State University, Mankato, will be returning to Madison College to facilitate the Quality Matters Improving Your Online Course workshop. Past workshops by Linda have received rave reviews from faculty. A choice of two face-to-face four-hour sessions will be held Thursday, August 28th and will be complete with food and rich dialog with peers:

Session 1: 8:30a-12:30p or Session 2: 1:00p-5:00p The IYOC training is open to all online faculty and is ideal for faculty who already have a developed online course, as faculty use their own courses as the basis for which to apply the Quality Matters Rubric standards. At the IYOC workshop, participants gain an understanding of the Quality Matters (QM) process, compile examples of best practices in online courses, gather specific ideas to improve their course, and gain affirmation of their course’s strengths. Participants work on applying the Quality Matters standards to their own, already developed, online course throughout the workshop. Upon completion of the Improving Your Online Course (IYOC) workshop, you will be able to:

• Identify the standards of the Quality Matters Rubric as crucial components of a quality online course, and explain each standard’s intention.

• Use the QM Rubric to review your online course. • Identify the areas of your online course that map to each of the QM Rubric standards and indicate

whether each area is exemplary or may need modification. • Develop a course improvement/modification plan that includes the areas of your course that you plan

to modify, a description of how you will modify each of these areas, a list of resources, and a timeline for making these modifications. To register: http://cetl.madisoncollege.edu/registration/ > Professional Development Workshops > Improving Your Online Course (choose morning or afternoon session) Questions?
