Families and the Gospel (Mark 10:35-45)
Advice books abound on marriage and parenting. Jesus
tells us in today’s gospel the real secret: satisfying
relationships depend on how well we sacrifice our needs
to serve other. It is not about “getting,” it is about
“giving” ourselves. If you feel like you are a servant to
your children and spouse, then you are doing it right.

place a statue or Holy picture of Our Lady and place it at
a prominent place in your home. You can decorate it with
a bouquet of flowers or in your own creative way.
Remember that the Rosary is recited every Wednesday at
3:30 pm in the Church and before all weekend Masses.
Please come and join us and fulfilling Our Blessed
Mother’s instruction to say a rosary daily.

THOUGHTS ON STEWARDSHIP
AS A WAY OF LIFE
“For the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to
serve and to give his life as a ransom for many.”
(Mark 10: 45)
If you held a mirror up to your life, would it reflect
God’s love and mercy? If you are struggling with this,
try changing your attitude from “I want more” to “thank
you God for everything you have given me, I have
enough to share”. This change in perspective will bring
you joy through service to others. Pray daily to become
less self-centered and to become more God-centered.

held on Sunday, October 31st from noon until 2 pm. If it
rains, the party will be in Harkin’s Hall. If the weather is nice

will have snacks, but will not provide lunch. There must be
at least one parent attending. Sign up in the gathering space
or call Amy Brisbin (814-931-4702)
Anyone wishing to donate individually wrapped candies
and/or Halloween prizes would be very much appreciated. A
donation box is located in the gathering space.
Come Join Us - Anyone interested in viewing the movie, Roe
vs. Wade, is welcome to join the Catholic Daughters on
Sunday, October 17th at noon in Saint Matthew gathering
space. Snacks will be provided.
Stewardship Reflections Our culture constantly
encourages us to do what we can to get ahead in this
world, to do what feels good, no matter the effects;
that power, authority, and wealth should be our goal.
Our faith offers us something different and fulfilling.
As Christian stewards, we are called to give our lives
in humble service of God and neighbor, just as Jesus
did. Our life is not supposed to be only about us. It is
about fulfilling God’s glorious plan. So, we must ask
ourselves, are we living to reach His goal for me,
personally? Is my life centered on Christ and others
or is it “all about me?”
It can be difficult to know God’s plan for our
entire life. He sees the whole picture, we can only
see the now. All we can do is seek Him daily. If each
day is centered on Him, then our entire lives will
become the work of Jesus. So let us make it our daily
mission to do the will of God in Spirit and Action. It
will look different for each one of us. (Stewardship
Reflection, Catholic Stewardship Consultants, Inc. 2021/09/20)
Patris Corde, 5. A Creatively Courageous Father In the Gospel accounts we learn that the Son of the Almighty came in to our world in a state of great vulnerability. He needed to be defended, protected, cared for and raised by Joseph. God trusted Joseph, as did Mary, who found in him someone who would not only save her life, but would always provide her and her child. In this sense, Saint Joseph is the guardian of the Church. And the Church is the continuation of the Body of Christ in history. Jesus and Mary his mother are the most precious reassures of our faith. The Church shows a special love for the least of our brothers and sisters as Jesus did, having been taught by St. Joseph. We too, continue to protect the child and his mother, by our love for the Church. Every poor, needy, suffering or dying person, every stranger, every prisoner and every infirmed person is “the child.” For this reason, Saint Joseph is invoked as protector of the unfortunate, the needy, the exiles, the afflicted, the poor and the dying. We must learn that same care and responsibility. Saint Joseph, A Creatively Courageous Father, Protector of Families, pray for us.
Sincere congratulations and best wishes to Mary ‘Aye’
Tepsic and Kenneth Drumheiser, who celebrated the
Sacrament of Holy Matrimony on Friday, October
15. May their love for each other be strong and continue
to grow. May they have a truly happy life together.
Rest in Peace – Please pray for the repose of the soul
of Thomas Miller, Father of Denise Fusco. May
God grant him eternal peace in His kingdom and his
loved ones comfort and strength.
Prayer for the Unborn Child Dear Lord, Reawaken in us respect for every unborn life, make us capable of seeing in the fruit of the maternal womb the miraculous work of your creation, open our hearts to generously welcoming every child that comes into life. Bless all families, sanctify the union of spouses, render fruitful their love. Accompany the choices of legislative
assemblies with the light of your Spirit, so that people and nations may recognize and respect the sacred nature of life, of every human life. Guide the work of scientists and doctors, so that all progress contributes to the integral well-being of the person, and no one endures suppression or injustice. Give creative charity to administrators
and economists, so they may realize and promote sufficient conditions so that young families can serenely embrace the birth of new children.
Console the married couples who suffer because they are unable to have children and in Your goodness provide for them. Teach us all to care
for orphaned or abandoned children, so they may experience the warmth of your Charity, the consolation of your divine Heart.
October 24th – World Mission Sunday
Pope Francis reminds us, “we cannot keep
the Lord to ourselves” and that we can
respond to our missionary call through charity.
Your support of evangelizing efforts and
building the Church in more than 1,100 mission
dioceses on that special day answers that
shared call.
Parishioners’ prayers and sacrifices will support
priests, religious, and lay pastoral leaders who
are proclaiming the Gospel, building the Church
and serving the poorest communities in
territories covering more than half the globe. They must know how their practical help –
and devoted prayer – enables missionaries to
work and witness to Christ, as an extension of
their own intention to speak about the
contagious faith they have seen and heard –
especially as the Mission Church, with us,
continues to cope with the challenges of the
global pandemic.

Please remember that one can have a lot of money but still live a really poor life and one can have no money at all and live a really rich life, that's because what makes a person truly rich is not how much they have but how much they give.
