“A finely polished

smash hit” - Variety

Your son, Aiden

How important is his future?

• Went from newborn to age four in the blink of an eye.

• Brings you hand-picked flowers from the garden.

• Wants to be a doctor when he grows up (either that or Spiderman).

• Still loves to cuddle with you, but don’t tell his friends.

Put in a request and StorkBrokers.com will notify you when it’s available.

So even though Grandma may not be as anxious as your 5 year old to climb around in this big truck, make sure you stop by and check it out!

Dominos Pizza: Introducing Domino’s Artisan Pizzas! We don’t wear black berets or apprentice with the masters in Italy. But when you taste any of our three New Artisan Pizzas with their hand-stretched, artisan-style crusts, and perfectly balanced combinations of select ingredients, you may just think we are artisans! You can choose from Spinach & Feta, Italian Sausage & Pepper Trio or the Tuscan Salami & Roasted Veggie. 2011 Benefi ciaries

Ripples of Service Project IdeasTossing pebbles. It’s see-a-splash, watch-a-cool-

ripple fun. It’s pretty remarkable how one person and a teeny pebble can make such a far-reaching impact. It’s the concept behind local non-profi t Pebble Tossers, which believes one child and an act of service can create far-reaching ripples of giving that span their family, community and lifetime. Founded in 2008 by two Atlanta Moms, Pebble Tossers is a non-profi t youth organization and online family volunteering resource serving over 5,000 youth and family members in metro-Atlanta and over 60 local non-profi t members.

The Pebble Tossers mission is to ignite a passion for volunteerism in youth that develops their character and impacts our world. They accomplish this by matching children’s interests and abilities with the needs of their community. Registering to be a volunteer is free at pebbletossers.org and gives you complete access to Pebble Tossers events, programs and services.

With a database of over 200 projects to choose from with local, pre-screened organizations, Pebble Tossers Volunteers complete hundreds of projects and

serve thousands volunteer hours in Atlanta every year in impact areas including: The Arts, Animals, Elderly, Environment, Families in Crisis, Homeless, Hunger, Sick or Disabled Children, and Our Troops & Veterans.

Pebble Tossers is a great resource for scouts, youth groups, and holiday giving projects. Recent 2011 accomplishments of Pebble Tossers volunteers include:

■ Collecting and packaging 2,000+ pairs of gently-worn shoes for the people of Haiti via local non-profi t Never Enough Shoes

■ Creating and hand-delivering hundreds of thank you cards to Atlanta Veterans at the GA Veterans Medical Center on the 4th of July

■ Collecting and packing $2,500 worth of backpacks and school supplies for students at Emma Hutchinson Elementary School in Atlanta.

Page 11: Family Block Party Festival Guide 2011

Atlanta Parent’s Family Block Party 2011 11

Family Block Party was created eight years ago to celebrate and give back to the

communities and families we serve. Each year we invite organizations who support families in metro Atlanta to become beneficiaries of Family Block Party. This year Atlanta Parent magazine is excited to partner with two local nonprofits: Families of Children Under Stress

and Pebble Tossers. Each of these groups reach out to parents and children in our community to provide valuable services. If your organization is interested in being a future partner with Atlanta Parent magazine and Family Block Party, please email Laura at [email protected]; applications will be available November 1, 2011 for consideration for 2012.

Families of Children Under StressWhen a child is diagnosed with a disability or

medical condition, parents are thrown into a new world of medical specialists, frequent hospitalizations, and ongoing therapies. They might watch their child

undergo painful medical procedures or hear a prognosis that sounds hopeless. They need information from parents who have walked this journey. They want recreational options for their children as they grow.

FOCUS began in 1983 when two medically fragile children shared a hospital room. These children had no specific diagnosis, and the parents could not find a support group. They

became friends after that hospitalization, and, in each other, found comfort, information, and hope. Together, they founded FOCUS to help families cope with the overwhelming struggles of parenting a child with special needs. Through the years, FOCUS has grown to offer comfort and hope to parents and fun programs for children with disabilities. FOCUS reaches almost 3,000 families in metro Atlanta and surrounding areas.

This non-profit organization understands and supports the unique needs of families with children who are medically fragile or have significant developmental or physical disabilities. FOCUS offers comfort, hope and information to parents; accessible recreational and social programs for children and teens; and fun, inclusive activities for the entire family.

FOCUS offers many programs for children, teens and young adults, families and parents. Besides providing fun social activities, like overnights and camps, the programs also provide useful information for parents with medically fragile children. Go to www.focus-ga.org or call FOCUS at 770-234-9111 for details about the programs.

Whether you’re the parent, sibling, or just a friend of a special needs child, you can help enrich the community through volunteering. FOCUS offers many fun and rewarding volunteer activities and will always accept helping hands for upcoming events, like their Moms Day Off and the FOCUS on Fashion show.
