The Institute for American Studies exhibits allow visitors to travel

Lamothe’s Sugar House opened in 1971 as a small family run farm
with only 7 taps for maple syrup. Soon after they had a large
demand and needed to expand to keep up. They now have over
4,000 taps and produce and ship maple syrup all over
Connecticut for sale. Their tap house and gift shop are open for
business and tours to the curious wanderer.

Thirty-five years ago the NMYA tapped ten trees on the front
lawn of the East Street School. Today, the Agency taps 1,600
trees on properties donated by residents in Kent. Over the past
three decades, this program has been driven by the work ethic,
imagination, and interest of the local youth. If you get a chance,
drop by in February and March to see the operation in full
swing. Just look for the steam floating up from the Sugar
House.
