Background

Our client - an automotive major having operations across many continents - had multiple SAP and non-SAP systems. SAP solution scope, involved, entire process from purchasing till the final delivery of vehicle to the end customer.

In order to follow standard processes the client adopted “Global and Local Template” approach. The solution development was done over a period of many years and testing the “Global” change was not easy.

Some of the challenges are listed below

a. Over a period client had added new dimension products.

b. Complexity of the development had increased with multiple production and development systems.

c. Visibility into template Impact was minimal.

Client wanted a single view, for business, as well as IT users, with all SAP data at a single location. In addition they also wanted test automation.

Infosys SolutionInfosys proposed and implemented ARIS and solution implementation module from SAP Solution Manager along with SAP TAO and QC-QTP.

Following were our key objectives:

Objective 1

PROCESS MAPPING WITH TEMPLATE APPROACH

Using ARIS and solution implementation module from SAP Solution Manager we could bring in a lot of transparency into how each country is organized on processes. ARIS and Solution Manager were synchronized together to create more than 81 projects by each country and product line. Updating even the smallest building block of the project with the “Change Management” document.

Objective 2

TEST AUTOMATION

SAP TAO along with QC-QTP was used to automate the end to end processes mapped in solution implementation and ARIS.

By putting the above two solutions together our client was able to reduce testing efforts drastically in the case of “Regression Testing”. During regression testing, consultants would be given log of testing for all template and local processes which would essentially mean 100% regression testing with no manual effort.

Project DetailsInfosys implemented SAP Solution Manager 7.0 with the following functionalities:

• Solution implementation with 81 projects.

• Updating each process object with change management documents.

• The project was created with country specific processes with product line flavors.

• Standard process mapping rules were observed in ARIS.

• ARIS queries were designed.

• All test scripts and test cases were rewritten to align the testing processes to business processes.

• Test scripts were automated using SAP TAO and QC-QTP.

Salient features of this solution

• SeamlessintegrationbetweenSAPSolutionManager,ARIS and QC-QTP.

• ProcesscoveredallSAPmodulesincludinglegacysystems like “Dealer Portal” and more than 300 interfaces.

• Processmappingandtestautomationwashand-in-hand to make sure complete traceability from process to test cases till change management documents of the affected process.

• Fine-tuningoftestcasescreatedwithcompleteoverhaulof the testing processes.

• Forthefirsttimeend-to-endprocessesweremappedwith distinct identification of global and local processes.

• Rolesandtaskswereclearlyarticulatedforfurtherregression testing.

Benefits realized by the Client• End-to-end process to testing traceability.

• Increased efficiency of the regression testing.
