Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, Merry Christmas! We have only just begun our Church’s Christmas season, so “Merry Christmas!” is still our appropriate greeting for each other at least through Epiphany. They call it the twelve days of Christmas for a reason… They even wrote a song about it! This Saturday, January 1, is the Solemnity of Mary, Mother of God. In a normal year, this would be a Holy Day of Obligation, but this is one of those Holy Days that if it falls on Saturday, the obligation is lifted. However, it is still a holy day, of course. What better way to launch the year 2022 than with the greatest prayer we can possibly offer, Holy Mass! Masses: Vigil, Friday, Dec. 31, 5:30pm; and Saturday, Jan. 1 at 11am. (Please note there is no 8am Mass on Jan. 1.) The afternoon/evening of Jan. 1, we will have our normal weekend Mass schedule with confessions followed by Mass at 5pm for the Epiphany. Below are excerpts from an article by J. Peter Sartain about making families holy. My prayer is that not only your family will be holy and at peace, but that also our parish family, centered on Jesus, Mary, and Joseph, will grow in that same peace and holiness. Let us pray for each other! – Father Wilson “At the center of the Christmas season we celebrate the feast of the Holy Family, recalling that the Son of God was born not only in flesh and blood, but also into a human family. Family life was thus redeemed and made holy by the Son of God. … - Our families are holy not when difficulties cease, but when we learn to turn to God as our only source of strength. - Our families are holy not when we never argue or disagree, but when we forgive rather than keep fists tightly clinched. - Our families are holy not when we stop having problems, but when we courageously ask God for guidance, trusting that he will be true to his promises. - Our families are holy not because parents and kids never have differences, but because despite our differences we never give up on one another. - Our families are holy not when parents always make the right decisions, but when they discover that wisdom comes from prayer – and that we’ll probably never know whether we’re wise or not. - Our families are holy not when we have reached our goals and retired, but when we have surrendered ourselves unconditionally to lifelong growth in Christ. - Our families are holy when husbands and wives and mothers and fathers and children give themselves as individuals, and together their entire family, to Jesus as His disciples. O God, grant that we may imitate the Holy Family in practicing the virtues of family life and in the bonds of charity. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Holy Mass Intentions

Act of Spiritual Communion

My Jesus, I believe that You are present in the Most Holy Sacrament. I love You above all things, and I desire to receive You into my soul. Since I cannot at this moment receive You sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart. I embrace You as if You were already there and unite myself wholly to You. Never permit me to be separated from You. Amen.

St. Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle. Be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil. May God rebuke him, we humbly pray, and do thou, O Prince of the heavenly hosts, by the power of God, thrust into hell Satan, and all the evil spirits, who prowl throughout the world seeking the ruin of souls. Amen.

The Holy Family of Jesus, Mary & Joseph

Lord Jesus Christ, who, being made subject to Mary and Joseph, did consecrate domestic life by Thine ineffable virtues; grant that we, with the assistance of both, may be taught by the example of Thy holy Family and may attain to its everlasting fellowship. Who lives and reigns, world without end.

Amen.

Praying the Angelus

For centuries Catholics have been encouraged to stop their daily activities and pray a prayer called the Angelus, three times a day: at morning, noon, and evening (outside of the Easter Season). You perhaps have heard the bells of St. Mary’s ringing a special ring at 6am, 12pm, and 6pm. When rung with bells, you’ll hear a series of three bells rung three times with pauses in between. After the third set of three, the bells peal in celebration. While the bells are rung, we say the prayer below, which can be done alone or with others. It takes less than 2 minutes, but can have a huge impact. Any time we stop what we are doing and give God our time, only great things can happen.

THE ANGELUS V. The Angel of the Lord declared unto Mary. R. And she conceived of the Holy Spirit. Hail Mary, full of grace, … V. Behold the handmaid of the Lord. R. Be it done unto me according to thy word. Hail Mary, full of grace, … V. And the Word was made Flesh. (genuflect or bow) R. And dwelt among us. Hail Mary, full of grace, … V. Pray for us, O holy Mother of God. R. That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.

Let us pray. Pour forth, we beseech thee, O Lord, thy grace into our hearts, that we to whom the Incarnation of Christ thy Son was made known by the message of an angel, may by His Passion and Cross be brought to the glory of His Resurrection. Through the same Christ Our Lord. Amen.

Are You Thinking about New Year’s

Resolutions?

This year consider starting or joining a small group. If you start one or join a new one, the parish has many studies to lend out. Some are video-based and some are book-based; some are bible studies and some studies are more general Catholic topics. If you are interested contact Mary Ellen Jackson to help you get started:
