God only ordained one day for celebrating Trumpets, but a second day was added due to the uncertainty of the Jewish calendar.

The beginning of a month was based on the sighting of a new moon and was not always easily determined

Lev. 23: “…a memorial of blowing of trumpets (shofar)…”

Throughout Israel’s history, the shofar has played a very central and important role.

Rosh HaShanah means “the beginning of the year.”

Why was this day established as the beginning of the year?

It is believed the birthday of the Earth.

In Biblical times, it was a day of rest and offerings that was commemorated with trumpet blasts.


One month before the Fall feasts begins a 40 day period of introspection (Teshuvah).

The shofar is blown each morning for the first 30 days as a reminder to prepare for the holy days

The final 10 days of Teshuvah are known as the High Holy Days - which begin on the Feast of Trumpets


Rosh HaShanah begins the High Holy Days… ten days of repentance and soul searching which conclude with Yom Kippur.

The blowing of the shofar has been an integral part of Israel’s history and directly linked with numerous significant events in their history.

These events supply the various themes associated with the Feast of Trumpets

There are two types of trumpets that were used in connection with the Temple and worshipping God

Hatzotzerah - Straight metal trumpet with a flared end, usually made of silver


Shofar - Curved trumpet fashioned from a ram’s horn


The Torah was given to Israel on Mt. Sinai with the sound of a Trumpet

(Exodus 19:19)

(Exodus 19:19 KJV) {19} And when the voice of the trumpet sounded long, and waxed louder and louder, Moses spake, and God answered him by a voice.


Israel defeated Jericho with the blast of the Trumpet (Joshua 6:20)

(Joshua 6:20 KJV) {20} So the people shouted when the priests blew with the trumpets: and it came to pass, when the people heard the sound of the trumpet, and the people shouted with a great shout, that the wall fell down flat, so that the people went up into the city, every man straight before him, and they took the city.


The Trumpet is sounded as a battle alarm and call to war

Trumpet is used to gather an assembly before the Lord (Num 10:2-4)

(Numbers 10:2-4 KJV) {2} Make thee two trumpets of silver; of a whole piece shalt thou make them: that thou mayest use them for the calling of the assembly, and for the journeying of the camps. {3} And when they shall blow with them, all the assembly shall assemble themselves to thee at the door of the tabernacle of the congregation. {4} And if they blow but with one trumpet, then the princes, which are heads of the thousands of Israel, shall gather themselves unto thee.


Announce the coronation of a new King (1 Kings 1:34,39)

Announce the beginning of the Year of Jubilee (Lev 25:9)

(Leviticus 25:9 KJV) {9} Then shalt thou cause the trumpet of the jubile to sound on the tenth day of the seventh month, in the day of atonement shall ye make the trumpet sound throughout all your land.

What do we expect to be the fulfillment of this Feast?

When are we expecting to see the Feast of Trumpets fulfilled? Why?

Historically, all of the spring feasts were fulfilled on their exact calendar day… it’s logical to expect the same for the fall feasts.


“No man knows the day or the hour” - The Day is Hidden

When Paul wrote about the rapture, he referred to it as “the last trump”

100th blast of Trumpet known as “Last Trump”

In Paul’s time, this referred to a specific day in the year because there were 3 primary trumpets in Judaism.

• The first trump - Pentecost • The last trump - Trumpets • The great trump - Yom Kippur
