Robin (Lauren) Derby is Associate Professor of Latin American history at the University of California, Los Angeles. She teaches modern Latin American social history covering topics such as slavery, religion, politics, and U.S. intervention, and her research focuses on Caribbean political history and popular culture in the Dominican
Republic, Haiti, Puerto Rico, and Cuba. She has published a prize-winning book on everyday life during the Trujillo dictatorship in the Dominican Republic, co-edited two anthologies, and written many articles on history and popular culture in Haiti, the Dominican Republic, and Puerto Rico. Her current book considers werewolf encounter narratives in Haiti and the Dominican Republic. She is currently the director of the Caribbean Program at the UCLA Latin American Institute. She has been teaching at UCLA since 2002.
