We love how they have patiently listened as we explained this newest literacy choice, and how they are working hard to build stamina in this area as well! Ask your child this weekend about all the fun materials they can now use to practice spelling and vocabulary. We are becoming readers and writers, and it is a joy to watch! In other news, although it seems impossible, spring parent/teacher conferences are just around the corner. We are really looking forward to meeting with you and your child’s general education teacher during the first week of March. Until then, have a great weekend and spend some great time with your kids! The fourth skill valued by local businesses in our community is flexibility and adaptability. We practice this skill in our classroom by working with students through schedule changes, changes in routine, seating changes, different assignment formats and reacting to situations with peers. Another Skill 4 Success we are developing in our room is ethical citizenship. We are working on this skill through teaching students to help others when they need it, not helping others when they don’t need it, and creating a classroom promise document with rules and procedures. The last skill we are working on is personal accountability. We develop this in our students by making them responsible for homework and assignments, graphing their own progress on a goal, and taking ownership of individual learning targets and working towards them. Skills 4 Success...

Last spring the Board of Education adopted the Skills 4 Success. Local businesses collaborated to gather a set of skills they would like their future employees to have. Our hope is to integrate these skills into our daily instruction. Last week, we introduced you to Communication and Problem Solving. This week, we’ll introduce the last three.
