Our past proven success with large scale and multifaceted sporting events such as Hockey Canada’s 2012 National Women’ s Under 18 Hockey Championship, 2012 Swiss Chalet Men’s National Curling Finals, 2010 Grey Power Player curling Championships and hosting the 2009 Hockey Canada National Women’s Team centralization camp, give us an advantage as a prime candidate to secure this bid. When Dawson Creek wins this bid, it will complete our Triple Crown” in hosting high performance female hockey events and we will be only the second city in Canada to host this International event. As requested please find attached a few video clips about our communities past experience working with Hockey Canada and their Athletes. Moreover, please find the summary of the event, proposed budget and past event articles. We are currently working towards the next steps with Hockey Canada and preparing for their site visit in March 2014 by the Selection Committee. We know it is early in the process and we have not been awarded the event, but we would like to be in a position of strength when the Selection Committee comes to Dawson Creek. Saying that, we would like to be able to present the Selection Committee with the Peace River Regional Districts support and commitment (that when we get the event) Peace River Regional District would be willing to become a funding partner of the 2016 IIHF Under 18 Women’s World Championships. A glimpse at the IIHF Ice Hockey U18 Women’s World Championship

Between 2007 and 2010, the number of registered female players worldwide grew from 153,665 to 170,872. Women’s hockey is on the rise in almost every part of the world and there are teams in North America, Europe, Asia, Oceania, Africa and Latin America (IIHF.com).

36 countries applied to enter their national team in the 2011 IIHF World Women’s Championship program and 18 in the women’s U18 category (IIHF.com).

The following competitions are sanctioned by the IIHF today:

o IIHF World Women’s Championship since 1990

o Women’s ice hockey tournaments at the Olympic Winter Games since 1998

o IIHF European Women’s Champions Cup since 2004

o IIHF World Women’s U18 Championship since 2008

o IIHF Women’s Challenge Cup of Asia since 2010

Canada’s National Women’s Under-18 Team successfully defended its gold medal at the 2013 IIHF Ice Hockey U18 Women’s World Championship, edging the United States 2-1 in overtime Saturday, Jan. 5 at Heinola Arena in Heinola, Finland.

The United States scored at 18:04 in the first and managed to hold off Canada until late in the third, but a

beautiful high shot from Catherine Dubois (Quebec City, Que./Limoilou, Collégial AA) in the last 13 seconds sent the game into overtime. It took just 58 seconds into the extra frame for Karly Heffernan (St. Albert, Alta./Edge School, JWHL) to score the exciting game-winning goal for a storybook ending for Canada at the 2013 IIHF Ice Hockey U18 Women’s World Championship. Kimberly Newell (Burnaby, B.C./Princeton University, ECAC) made 39 saves for the win.

Canada and the United States have met in all six gold medal games at the IIHF Ice Hockey U18 Women’s World Championship. Canada also won the world championship in Jan. 2012, shutting out the United States 3-0 in Zlin, Czech Republic, and in 2010, defeating its cross-border rival 5-4 in overtime in Chicago, Ill. The U.S. took gold in 2008, 2009 and 2011.

Canada’s Halli Krzyzaniak (Neepawa, Man./Pursuit of Excellence, Midget AAA) was named best defenceman of the 2013 tournament, as selected by the IIHF directorate, while Sweden’s Minatsu Murase was named best goaltender and Katherine Schipper of the United States was named best forward. The top three Canadian players, as selected by the IIHF directorate, are forwards Hanna Bunton (Belleville, Ont./Whitby, PWHL) and Dubois, along with Krzyzaniak.

Captain Kristyn Capizzano (Oakville, Ont./Mississauga, PWHL), alternate captains Emily Clark (Saskatoon, Sask./Okanagan Hockey Academy, JWHL) and Krzyzaniak, along with Ashleigh Brykaliuk (Brandon, Man./Westman, MFMHL) and Dubois, all return to the 2013 world championship-winning team after winning the 2012 IIHF Ice Hockey U18 Women’s World Championship in Zlin.

Last year’s Canada’s National Women’s Under-18 Team, broken down by province: o Alberta – three (Taryn Baumgardt*, Eden Murray*, Karly Heffernan*) o British Columbia - three (Kimberly Newell*, Hannah Miller*, Alexa Ranahan*)

o Manitoba - three (Ashleigh Brykaliuk*, Halli Krzyzaniak*, Cassidy Carels*) o Ontario – eight (Hanna Bunton*, Kristyn Capizzano*, Jessica Dodds, Kristin Gilmour, Corie Jacobson,

o Prince Edward Island – one (Sarah Steele*) o Quebec – three (Geneviève Bannon*, Catherine Daoust*, Catherine Dubois*)
