The first meet for the MCHS Power Lifting Team is February 16th

ships on March 9th. Finally, on March 16th, the team will compete

in the Laurel County Invitational Power Lifting Meet. On January 9th, the MCHS Wrestling Team won their

home match against Franklin County by a score of 42-30.

The MCHS Varsity Wrestling Team finished their regular

season this past weekend by winning the Danville Duels

Championship. The team finished the regular season with

a duels record of 30-5. The wrestlers will compete in the

regional tournament on February 8th and 9th in Woodford

County.

Kudos to the MCHS

Cheerleaders for win-

ning the Class 2A Re-

gional Champion-

ships. They will com-

pete at the state level

on February 22nd in

Bowling Green.

On February 19th,

the MCHS Dance

Team was named

10th Regions

Champions in the

small team competi-

tion. They will

compete at the state

level on February

23rd in Frankfort.

The MCHS Bowling Girls placed 3rd in the Region on

Saturday, January 26th. Katie Potter and Tori Roach

placed in the top 10 for individual events. Katie Potter

advanced to the Top 8 and tied for 4th place. In a contro-

versial bowl off , she placed 5th overall in the region.

Terrific job to the Boys’ Bowling Team who will compete

in the state tournament after winning the Regional Com-

petition this Saturday. Congratulations to Zack Blevins

and Andy Cora

who qualified to

move on to the

state individual

competition.

Something to Tweet About – The school system has added Twitter to its communication resources in a continued effort to share information effec-

tively and efficiently. Follow us @MCSisBest.

Celebrating Success - (1) The MCHS Boys’ Bowling team won the regional tournament for the second year and advanced to state competition.

Andy Cora and Zack Blevins were 3rd and 4th in the region and will compete individually at the state level. (2) The MCHS Future Problem Solving

Team advanced to regional Governor’s Cup competition, which included Cody Brentlinger,

Bryana Shumate, Logan Darnell, and Taylor Bowman. Also advancing to regionals individually

- James Bowman, Science; Elizabeth Mynhier, in both

Language Arts and Composition; Cody Brentlinger, Social

Studies; Bryana Shumate, Arts/Humanities. (3) The MCHS

Mock Trial Team swept the championship of the 2013

University of Kentucky Wildcat Invitational last Saturday.

The MCHS Red Team won the title and the MCHS Blue

Team took second place in the tournament. (4) More than

40 parents and staff members attended a public forum last

Sunday to discuss safety and security in the schools. (5)

Students across the district celebrated the 100th day of

school on Monday, January 28th. (6) Network engineer

Brett Higgins was elected as the Region 5 Representative for the Kentucky Society for Technology in Education.

Student Attendance – Attendance was once again dismal across the district this week, with four of our schools posting attendance days below

90%. The good news is that the highest daily and weekly percentages were posted by Mt. Sterling Elementary, which had the lowest rates in the

district last week. MSE had a daily high of 94.27% and a weekly high of 92.52%.

Administrative Credentials Change - All Kentucky school principal preparation programs have recently moved to a 30-hour POST-Master’s re-

quirement. Current Level I credentials were likely earned via the completion of a Master’s level program. Current EPSB regulations state that all

coursework, including that required for Level II programs, for the Master’s level programs must be completed before JANUARY 31, 2014. Level I

credentials may only be renewed by completing the Level II program. It is to the advantage of all Level I administrative credential holders to com-

plete all Level II coursework (usually 6-9 credit hours, depending upon the university) as soon as possible and no later than January 2014. Comple-

tion of the Level II program will renew this credential, add up to five more years to the expiration date, and will prevent having to take the substan-

tially higher number of credit hours required by all of the newly approved post-Master’s preparation programs. After the January 31, 2014 dead-

line, universities will not be able to make the Level II recommendations without the completion of the new post-Master’s requirements. Level I

credential holders are urged to make plans now to complete the requirements for Level II.
