FROM ME TO YOU…

Dear Friends and Families of Maple West,

I trust that all of your holiday celebrations were both enjoyable and restful. I would like to wish you all a

Happy New Year and thank you for your support of not only your child and your child’s teachers, but also

your support for all of our children at Maple West Elementary. Our 4th grade concert at Mill Middle School

was a great success. It is difficult to believe that the majority of our children have never picked up an

instrument and now they are reading and playing with a full band and orchestra. Bravo!!! A BIG thank you

to all the parents for your support as you listen to the squeaks and whistles. I can tell you that I have first-

hand experience watching our children as they play in the high school bands and orchestra. If you close your

eyes you would think that you are listening to the BPO.

Don’t forget that we are off for mid-winter break form Monday, February 20th through Friday, February

24th. Pick A Reading Partner (PARP) is planned to begin on February 13th through February 17th. Our SDM

Team is working to plan a wellness night along with a fun run and Maple West 50th birthday party, it should

be a lot of fun.

Kindergarten registration will begin very soon. Please let any neighbor with school aged children know to

keep an eye out for information coming from the district. They can always contact us at 626-8840 to get

more information.

Every Friday is Maple West Spirit Day - Wear green and white or orange for UNITY!

Dr. Galluzzo

Morning Drop off Procedure -

There is a natural flow to the drop off area now that we have our bus loop. If you feel you need to

drive your children to school, please adhere to the bulleted procedures below:

Please turn right as you enter and continue to proceed towards the playground in a counter

clockwise fashion staying to the right.

(NO PASSING ON THE LEFT) Do not pass a car on the left as another

parent is dropping off. Consider these cars as school buses with their

red lights on. There may be someone trying to park in the handicap spot.

Have your children ready to leave your car and exit from the passenger side of your car.

Please do not take extra time bundle them up. There is a teacher inside the door watching

children come into the building.

Please park if you are going to walk your children into school. You will be holding up the

drop off of other students.

Once you drop off your child continue around the loop staying to the right and exit the

parking lot.

We realize that this is a very busy time of the day for everyone, but our number one priority is the

safety of the children. Please be patient and pay extra close attention to the children and other

drivers around you.

PTA PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE:

Happy February, Maple West Families!

We hope everyone had a nice relaxing winter break. February break is February 20 through 24 and will be here before we know it!

Our PTA has been working really hard on an exciting new project. In the beginning of the school year we told you about our initiative to move all of our fundraising efforts in the direction of family fun events. For this reason the Mixed Bag sale, as well as the spring candy sale have both been cancelled. In lieu of those catalog sales, a fun run is being planned for June 2. The fun run is a fundraiser and SO MUCH MORE! The PTA and the Maple West wellness committee are combining efforts to have a wellness fair during the fun run. There will be some other fun things like food trucks, and celebrations of the 50th anniversary of Maple West! This is already looking like a great event, combining fun, families, wellness, and fundraising! Mark your calendar!

We sincerely hope that we haven't inconvenienced anyone with the cancellation of the two sales. Every time the PTA has fundraised in the past and asked for your support, your response has been impressive, and we are so grateful for that! We have the opportunity to earn $20,000 with the fun run, and hope to have your support again.

As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to contact Jen at 228-9574 or Sarah at 908-6674. We wish a wonderful February, full of hugs and kisses from your little sweethearts and a relaxing break!

Our goal this year - $1,000

Total that I have gathered and bunched as of January 20th - $758

We are doing fantastic so far! Thanks for all the clipping you have done already!

We have until March 1st to hit our goal or another way to look at it, a little more than 1 month!

I am a number person. So for those of you like me, let’s break this down.

Each Box Top is worth $.10 so we need 2,420 more Box Tops. There are about 650 students at

Maple West. So if each student can bring in 4 Box Tops we will have surpassed our goal.

4 Box Tops?! That is crazy easy. Ask 5 of your friends and family if they have any. I am sure at

least a couple can help you out. 4 Box Tops – super simple – no asking anyone to buy anything,

just asking them to look for the pink label on their packages at home.

Have you downloaded the Box Top App yet? If not please look into it. On the app they will

give you offers. All you have to do is buy the offer, select it on your app and scan your receipt.

In two shopping trips I have already earned our school an extra $.80 plus the $.40 we will get

once I clip the Box Tops off those products. That was an easy $1.20 I just earned for Maple

West. It may not seem like a lot but I am just one person. Image if we all do it!

Clipping Box Tops has got to be one of the easiest ways to earn money for our school. All you

have to do is look for the pink Box Top on participating products and send them to school. Each

clipped Box Top is worth 10¢ and they add up quickly. Be sure to ask all of your friends and

relatives to clip them for you as well. Also keep your eyes open for bonus certificates on

products and check your receipts as I know Tops every once in a while will print out a Box Top

reward.

Look for our box to drop off all Box Tops above the PTA dog house across from the office. As

far as clipping them, they don’t have to be perfect, just make sure they aren’t expired and the

expiration date isn’t cut off. Also send in any bonus certificates you find. So to sum it up clip,

stick them in a baggie, have your kiddo drop them off and watch us easily raise money for Maple

West!

For more information on Box Tops, including a list of participating products, go to BTFE.com.

Be sure to sign up as a member (it’s free!) so you can check out our school’s earnings details and

get access to coupons and bonus offers.

Thanks for all your help with this fun and easy collection.

Please continue to bring in Dash’s recipts!! No amount is too small. Please send them to school in your child’s folder or drop them in the bin above the

PTA box across from the main office. We collect throughout the entire school year. Please help to support our school and raise $2.50 for every $100 worth

of register receipts we collect.

Thank you for your help, The Maple West PTA

Dear Maple West Families,

All around Maple West, students and teachers will be collecting used markers that are ready to be discarded. The markers will be sent to a facility where they will be converted into clean fuel. This fuel can be used to power vehicles, heat homes, cook meals and more!

Please help support our efforts by sending your kids to school with any used markers you may have around the house – even non-Crayola brands (all markers including permanent, dry erase, highlighters). A white Crayola ColorCycle container will be located in the front hall of the building for the children to deposit the markers.

Last year, we were able to collect 6,175 markers! I would love to see us collect over 7,000 markers this year. Please send in your used markers to school for recycling!

Thank you in advance for participating! With the help of all families like you across the country, the Crayola ColorCycle program can keep tons of plastic out of landfills each year.

Remember, don’t throw out that used marker—ColorCycle it!

Sincerely,

Garidith Khayat Attendance/Health Aide Learn more at http://www.crayola.com/colorcycle

Join Cub Scouts at

Maple West! When you’re a kid, fun comes first. Final exams, driver’s ed and summer

jobs will arrive soon enough. Cub Scouts lets kids have fun while teaching them skills that will

help them later on. From the thrill of shooting an arrow to learning how to transform a block of

wood into a race car, Cub Scouts is one thrill after another. With a program expertly tailored to

match each age in a young boy's life, Cub Scouts learn that even when fun isn’t easy, it’s

always an adventure. In Scouting, everything has a purpose. And it shows kids that doing their

best is the most fun of all.

Learn more and sign up anytime at www.pack248.com

How does it work?

Each boy is assigned to a den based on their grade (1-5).

Boys meet with their dens a few times a month at various times and places, based on

the den and the program that month.

All dens meet once a month as a pack, usually a Wednesday and at Maple West.

Boys work toward earning their next rank with the help of the den leaders and their

families.

As a pack we camp at local scout camps four times a year.

We have many other special events we do as a Pack like:

o Pinewood Derby

o Scout Mobile (kids build and

ride their cars down a track)

o Sleeping over on the Navy

ships

o Pack Picnics

o Pack Hikes

o Blue and Gold Banquets

o And much more!

What does it take to join?

Be in the grades 1-5

Complete a Boy Scouts of America Youth application.

In first grade an adult must attend the meetings and adventures with the scout.

Submit the application(s) to the Pack and pay your yearly dues of just $80. Your dues are just that,

$80/year! You will be amazed what value you get. (Make checks payable to “Pack 248”).

Purchase a uniform (~$120 at the local scout shop).

Purchase a handbook (~$13 at the local scout shop).
