Santino R is part of the first drop of the Starnberg youngsters. The very first Starnbergs offered at auction earlier this year have all been snapped up. Starnberg is a young stallion schooling on impressively and will perform at the auction in the masterclasses. Although only 6 years of age, he already displays very promising piaffe and passage. Starnberg is a freak when it comes to flying changes and can already do the Grand Prix movement of 15 one-time changes! Santino R is out of Jean R who is also the mother of Rogue Trader R who sold for $49,500 at this year’s Sydney AOS. Jean R is by the powerful Grand Prix stallion Jive Magic. Jean R is out of Lucilla R. Lucilla R is a full sister to Stirling Liberty who was a World Cup show-jumper with Olympian Gavin Chester in the saddle and who sired Snowy River Blackwood. Snowy River Blackwood was one of Australia’s leading Grand Prix dressage horses for some years with Di Jenkyn in the saddle. Lucilla R is by Ludendorf, who to this day is the only stallion ever to be listed for the Olympics in three day eventing and Grand Prix dressage simultaneously. So Santino R is so bred in the purple in terms of Olympic disciplines. Santino R is a beautiful type and particularly quiet and curious about people. Isle of Manhattan is by Magnetic Isle who carries the famous bloodlines of the Contact/ Cor De La Bryere on the grand-sire’s side and Calypso I on the grand-dam. His dam, Tamerisk, carries just enough TB to give some elegance but without the fizz. Manhattan is the perfect dressage shape, short-coupled, uphill and a natural frame. With a trainable nature and excellent temperament, you have the ideal horse for a junior rider or smaller adult to take up through the ranks. Manhattan was professionally broken as a three year old and quietly hacked out until he was four, when he was taken on by professional rider/coach Amanda Hocking. He gained 68% in his first preliminary test, then ran 3rd in the Preliminary Championships at his second start at WPNEC as a loan horse for the New Zealand Young Riders team. He qualified for Victorian State Champíonships 2010 and 2011 with scores in the 70s. Manhattan has been ridden by beginners and FEI riders alike and all have enjoyed their experience. Fidella is a light elegant version of an equine ballerina. She needs little or no encouragement to show off a trot that is full of spring and exquisite poise. Fidella carries some very state-of-the-art bloodlines in that she is by the young stallion who is taking Australia by storm, Fiji R. Fiji R is being campaigned by young rider Breanna Tillitzki and is winning with big scores at medium level. Fidella is out of a Regardez Moi mare, Ruby. Regardez Moi has been the Australian Grand Prix dressage champion on two separate occasions. Ruby is out of a Richmeed Medallion mare. Richmeed Medallion was himself a Grand Prix dressage horse and did throw very elegant foals with a light way of going. Fidella seems to have taken the best traits out of all of her ancestors and represents a truly spectacular individual.

AEA Metallic recently won the VDC Inter I Club Championship. Everyone is in awe when they get the chance to see him move. If it wasn’t for commitments of a young family he would be competing and winning all over Australia. At 10 he can do all the Grand Prix movements and we are gearing up for Grand Prix early next year with a passage and piaffe not seen before in Australia. Yasi is the only Starnberg to be offered so far for sale out of a thoroughbred mother. This certainly has not taken away from his athleticism and his mother Maze does carry some very interesting bloodlines. Maze is by Sanction, who is the sire of Heath Ryan’s 4-star three-day event winner, Flame. Right down on the bottom line is Zamazaan who was both a superstar racehorse sire as well as a superstar eventing/dressage sire. Yasi is made of Indian rubber and is born supple all over. Johannesburg R is just 3 years of age and showing lots and lots of promise. She was broken in by Sappho who can be seen riding the mare in the photograph. Johannesburg R has just the most beautiful temperament and a natural willingness to please. Johannesburg R folds really naturally through the poll and on to the bit. She has a very steady head carriage. Johannesburg R has three steady, balanced paces in the walk, trot and canter. We believe that she is indeed very talented and spectacular in the paces but we have not pushed her training at this early stage. Johannesburg R is very quiet and intelligent and we do have to be very careful not to train her too quickly. Johannesburg R is by Jive Magic who is a brilliant Grand Prix dressage stallion. Johannesburg R is out of Russia R who is by Regardez Moi who is the two-time Australian Grand Prix dressage champion. Russia R is out of Georgia R who in turn is by Grand Kavalier. Grand Kavalier is out Resista who is a full sister to Rubinstein. Of course Regardez Moi is by Rubinstein so Johannesburg R has a double cross of Rubinstein.
