FEED-IN MANAGEMENT &
ZERO EXPORT
Fronius International GmbH
Froniusplatz 1

OVERVIEW
/ Feed-in management
/ Electricity grid operators in many countries increasingly demand feed-in limitations as a condition
for grid connection. With the dynamic feed-in control, Fronius offers a solution for optimal feed-in
management for photovoltaic systems. If there are feed-in limitations, the inverter supplies the
connected loads in the household or the building. Additionally the inverter reduces its output
according to the maximum power value accepted by the grid operator.
/ What‘s new?
/ As of now Fronius inverters support zero export, meaning a feed-in limitation of 0%. Thus, no PV
electricity is being fed into the grid. The requirements from the grid operator can easily be met via a
setting on the web interface of the inverter.
/ All Fronius SnapINverters inclusive the Fronius Symo Hybrid support this feature.

SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS FOR ZERO EXPORT
/ Hardware Requirements
/ Fronius SnapINverter with integrated Fronius
Datamanager 2.0 or Fronius Datamanager Box 2.0
/ Fronius Symo Hybrid
/ Fronius Smart Meter 1)
/ Fronius Smart Meter 63A-1
/ Fronius Smart Meter 63A-3
/ Fronius Smart Meter 50kA-31) This feature cannot be guaranteed with a S0 pulse meter.

CONFIGURATION
4Fronius International GmbH / Feed-in Management & Zero export / 01.2017 - v03
/ The configuration can be done via the web interface of the Datamanager (see
“settings DNO Editor”)
Adjustable range:
-10% to 100% of the total DC power
Default value in percent or Watt
APPLICATION EXAMPLE 1: 10% LIMITATION
5Fronius International GmbH / Feed-in Management & Zero export / 01.2017 - v03
/ Requirement: 10% limitation from the grid supplier
/ Instead of 10% also 60% (Germany) can be requested
APPLICATION EXAMPLE 2: ZERO FEED-IN
6Fronius International GmbH / Feed-in Management & Zero export / 01.2017 - v03
/ Requirement: No PV energy is fed into the public grid
APPLICATION EXAMPLE 3: -2% LIMITATION
7Fronius International GmbH / Feed-in Management & Zero export / 01.2017 - v03
/ Requirement: Permanent, mininal consumption from public grid
/ Reason: Grid suppliers are afraid that PV energy is fed into the public grid
despite the zero feed-in regulation. Therefore the -2% can be seen as a safety
factor. It is selected to guarantee a continuous minimum consumption (like a
buffer).

The Fronus Smart Meter
can also be installed in
the consumption path.
SPECIFICATION ZERO EXPORT
/ Adjustable Range: -10% to 100%
/ Settling time: < 5 Seconds
/ Applies only to the following system configuration:
/ 1 - 5 Fronius SnapINverter 1)
/ 1 Fronius Datamanager
/ 1 Fronius Smart Meter
/ Phase-balanced
/ In three-phase systems, the sum of the load on all phases is being measured and the inverters are
feeding in symmetrically. No regulation per-phase.
/ Failure safety:
/ If the connection between the Fronius Datamanager and the Fronius Smart Meter fails, the inverters
reduce their output to the predefined minimal value (fall back scenario).
1) For system size > 5 Fronius SnapINverters the settling time of under 5 seconds cannot be guaranteed. Furthermore the configuration
with several inverters is not possible with Fronius Hybrid inverters. Only one Fronius Hybrid inverter can be combined with one Fronius
Smart Meter.
