One mission. One ohana. One million meals. These are the mottos of the hunger heros who gather across the islands to provide
food assistance in the community. The Annual Food Drive has become a movement of people from all walks of life who devote a day to raise food and funds for children, seniors and adults who are at risk of hunger. On Saturday, April 21, the 29th Annual Food Drive will be held at the following locations: Kapolei Commons Koko Marina Center & Hawaii Kai Towne

Volunteers are needed on food drive day. Hawaii Foodbank is currently accepting volunteer applica-tions must be at least years old . Register by March

Take part in the largest national single-day food drive to help feed families and children in need during the summer. Save the blue collection bag placed in your mailbox during the first week of May and fill it with nonperishable food items. On May 12, place your food donation next to your mailbox for your neighborhood letter carrier to pick up. The top five most wanted foods are canned proteins, canned meals, canned vegetables, canned fruits and rice.

Kalakaua Avenue in Waikiki will be lined with a selection of Honolulu restaurants that will serve a variety of SPAM® dishes. The public street festival will also include two stages with live entertainment, local retailers and a SPAM® merchandise tent where visitors can purchase SPAM® themed items including limited edition SPAM® JAM t-shirts, apparel and an array of collectibles. SATURDAY, APRIL 28, 2018 at 4 - 9 PM • FREE ADMISSION Attendees are encouraged to support the community by dropping off monetary donations, SPAM® and other nonperishable food at either of our two Hawaii Foodbank tents. Food and funds raised at the event will provide food assistance to children, seniors and adults who are at risk of hunger in Hawaii.

Board, collected and donated 155 lbs. of food. He has hosted food drives for three years.

In early December 2017, Bank of Hawaii employees gathered for the annual Tree Lighting Ceremony to celebrate the outstanding results of their Live Kokua charitable giving program, which raised $722,248 for the benefit of Hawaii nonprofit organizations.
On December 4, 2017, Paul Kaiser, COO and Laurie Jim, CFO of Hawaii-Western Management Group presented a check for $24,000 to Laura Kay Rand, vice president & chief impact officer and KimBartenstein, director of mission & uality control of Hawaii Foodbank. Students of Pearl Harbor Elementary School participated in Imagine Learning's Do Math Pay It Forward Celebration to earn THINK points which yielded a conversion of 5 , e uivalent to ,25 meals. With a $8,000 #FillYourTank donation from Enterprise Rent-A-Car Foundation, Hawaii Foodbank is able to fight hunger in Hawaii and help our neighbors reach their fullpotential. This gift will provide 20,000 meals to people in need of food assistance.
Mahalo to everyone who helped Check-Out Hunger over the holidays. The campaign which ran from November 2, 2017 through January 16, 2018, raised funds to supportHawaii Foodbank on Oahu and Kauai, Maui Food Bank and The Food Basket on Hawaii Island. Since its inception, Kraft's Check-Out Hunger has raised over $2.9
million, thanks to participating retailers and shoppers.

It’s already March. Can you believe it?Already the third month of 2018 when we haven’t even fully recovered from 2017. Is it a sign of age when the time just seems to slip away? Or merely an indication that we’re just too darned busy? And why does it always feel as if there’s unfinished business to tend?
The answer is easy, especially for those who work the fooddistribution sites, the shelters, the church pantries and the Hawaii Foodbank. Our work never goes away. There are always mouths to feed and stomachs to fill. There are children who are forced to skip breakfast and grandparents forced to skimp on dinner. Hunger never takes a break.
Like so many of you, I sometimes wonder if or when we’ll ever catch up with the need and break the cycle. Can we make it stop, or at least, slow it down? Sometimes it’s discouraging to see that the problem in Hawaii appears to be getting worse all the time. The lines at the food distribution sites attest to the grim situation for families. They’re hurting.
We had our Kickoff Breakfast for our Annual Food Drive recently.
You can always count on a few things at the breakfast—our fearless leader, Annual Food Drive Chairwoman, Sheri Rolf, will give the room a jolt of positive energy; the emcees will make us scream and jump around even though it’s way too early in the morning; and we will, again, see the great need for what we’re doing and it will motivate us to take on the fight for another year.
This year we were screaming, “ONE MILLION MEALS!!!!” And that’s our goal for the upcoming Food Drive—ONE MILLION MEALS. It sounds like a lot, but I know you can do it. And by you, I mean all of us working together. As we point out again and again, the Hawaii Foodbank is nothing without YOU. YOU make it work, YOU make us possible and YOU are the heart and soul of the safety net for our Hawaii ohana.
We’ve got so much to look forward to and time is ticking away, so let’s roll up our sleeves and make 2018 a good year for the thousands of people who are looking for a little—or a lot of—help. The great thing about never being done with our work is that we get very, very good at it. All of us at the HawaiiFoodbank are looking forward to working with our partners— with YOU — to help feed Hawaii’s hungry.
