Meet Mr. Bob The Great Veteran!By Nick D.

Mr. Bob is an awesome veteran. He was in the Army and was in the Vietnam War of 1969. Mr. Bob was drafted to the Army, but he wasn’t the only one in his family that was in the military; his brother and father were in it too. He loved being in the military but didn’t like the war. Mr. Bob felt very proud that he got drafted to be in the Army. Mr. Bob got trained for riffle, cannon and infantry. If you were thinking of joining the army, here is some advice from Mr. Bob: He said, “Follow directions and have self discipline.” When he got home from the Army, he felt very very happy and glad to be home, but if Mr. Bob can go back to the Army he would. CUBS By Daniella R.

The Chicago Cubs are a great baseball team. They are a team in Major League Baseball. The Cubs just won the World Series against the Cleveland Indians. Their stadium is called Wrigley Field. The Cubs won three world series. They won in 1907, 1908, and 2016. They were in eleven World Series total. It has been 108 years since they have won! In total, they have won 116 regular games. Also, the Cubs aren’t the only team in Chicago; the White Sox are another team. Now you know a little about the Chicago Cubs!

A Book Review on Gymnastics Jitters

By Emma S. In my opinion, Jake Maddox writes awesome books. But my favorite book by him is “Gymnastics Jitters.” If you ask me, “Gymnastics Jitters” is one of the best books ever! It is about how not playing fair and cheating will get you nowhere. One of the gymnastics teams, (aka The Superstitions) didn’t play fair. They were always hogging the equipment at the gym and more. The Raiders, the team they were against were mostly always doing the right thing. The Raiders never usually yelled back or never fought physically. At the end of the competition, the Superstitions were feeling upset. Did the raiders cheer on the other team or make fun off them? Find out by reading “Gymnastics Jitters!”

“Mr. Hockey” Gordie Howe

By Kaley L. Gordie Howe was born on March 31, 1928 in Saskatchewan, Canada. He was one of nine siblings. Gordie started playing hockey when he was five years

old. He played 26 seasons in the National Hockey League (NHL) and six seasons in the World Hockey Association (WHA). The Detroit Red Wings is where he played for 25 seasons and won four Stanley Cups. Gordie brought professional hockey to Connecticut when he and his sons, Mark and Marty, played for the Hartford Whalers. Gordie was nicknamed “Mr. Hockey” because he was considered the most complete player to ever play hockey and one of the greatest hockey players of all time. Even Wayne Gretzky, (another great hockey player) said Gordie was the best hockey player of all time. He is in the Hockey Hall of Fame. Mr. Hockey died on June 10, 2016 at the age of 88. I hoped you learned something about Gordie Howe, “Mr. Hockey.”

What’s Your Opinion? By Clare K.

Apple Pie vs. Pumpkin Pie I interviewed two girls; Adriana W. and Isabella C. to get

their opinion on Apple Pie versus Pumpkin Pie

Adriana (Pumpkin Pie)

Adriana likes pumpkin pie because it reminds her of fall. “It’s very

seasonal,” she says in her own words. She thinks the texture is smooth, unlike apple pie. She doesn’t like apple pie because it’s too lumpy. Adriana thinks pumpkin pie is a true pie and thinks it’s perfect for October and November. Adriana thinks pumpkin pie is the ultimate delicious fall delight!

Isabella (Apple Pie)

Isabella likes the smooth top of apple pie and how the inside is so gooey. She thinks it’s very sweet, tart, and goes really well with ice cream! “Pumpkin pie is good, but apple pie is absolutely delicious!” she says. But over all, Isabella thinks apple pie is a slice of heaven!

The First ThanksgivingBy Taylor O.

Thanksgiving in the 1600’sThe Pilgrims came to North America from England in the

winter of 1620. The Native Americans lived in North America before the Europeans. They settled in a town called Plymouth. The Native people taught the Pilgrims how to hunt for food and how to grow crops. The Pilgrims then gathered all the food they could and invited the Native Americans to a feast.

Did you know that Thanksgiving was not always a holiday?

It took about 200 years for Thanksgiving to become a national holiday. Sarah Hale spent years sending letters to every new US President. But Abraham Lincoln agreed to make Thanksgiving a national holiday. In the United States, we celebrate Thanksgiving on the fourth Thursday of November each year.

Thanksgiving Now!Thanksgiving is a feast or gathering with a lot of food. It’s almost time for Thanksgiving! What kind of food do you eat on Thanksgiving? What is your favorite dish? Speaking of food, the kinds of food that you can find in our country on Thanksgiving Day are stuffing, mashed potatoes, veggies, pumpkin pie, and the most popular - Turkey! In Canada, they celebrate Thanksgiving

on the second Monday of October. That means their bellies are already stuffed with yummy foods!! No one knows why the Turkey is the most popular, but it just is. Many people invite their aunts, uncles, grandparents, cousins and even friends to their Thanksgiving dinner. Happy Thanksgiving! Happy Turkey Day to all!

The Wampanoag Tribe By Angela L.

The Wampanoag Tribe lived in what is today Rhode Island and Eastern Massachusetts. According to their tradition, they have been there for thousands of years. Scientist believe the Wampanoags arrived sometime close after the Ice Age. By 1,000 AD, they borrowed ideas such as farming from a Midwestern culture called the Hopewell. Later, the Wampanoags enjoyed an alliance with their neighbor the Massachusetts Nausett people.

Cool Fact

There were about 30,000 Wampanoag people before the

Pilgrims arrived.

DIY Hand Turkeys

By Isabella C.

1. Trace your hand (all fingers and palm)

2. Cut out and make it look like a turkey

3. Last but not least, print one thing you are thankful for on each

feather.

Then…ENJOY! I hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving!
