    cHApiT RESIDENCE + THEATRE

The new Chapits facilities, a Lisbon based circus school, are sited in Lisbon directly below the S. Jorge Castle. The new fa-cilities program integrates a circus school, a theatre and a stu-dents residence.Besides the theatre and the circus school facilities, the public space is one of the most important parts of the project. There are three important public spaces in the project: the rooftop, the ground floor square and the interior sidewalk. The volume is divided in two axes setting to directions in the rooftop the city and the river and at the same time it opens for a new public square on the ground floor where we can find some shops and a bar/restaurant.The rooftop also ensures the public access to the theatre by the bridge that unites both volumes. Theres also a new pas-sage inside the building that substituted the regular sidewalks, ensuring a constant dynamic inside the building.

  • Inacontextofspatialandurbandyslexicenvironment is proposed a building thatturnshimself tothe interior, which leadsus to an intimate universe, a space forretreat and introspection. This conceptleadstothe ideaofconvent, monastery, cloister, thecourtyard.Thegroundfloor, arranged fromtheen-trance hall, contains almost the entirepublic service. It is from this space thatyouhaveaccesstoadultandchildlibrarysections, the archive reading room, thebarand themaincourtyard, fromwhereyoucanreachthemulti-purposeroom.Looking to provide the buildingwith anunique agility as an answer to program-maticrequirements,isproposedthedivi-sionofpublicservice in threeparts - thelobby,librariesandarchivereadingroom;multi-purposeroomandtemporaryexhi-bition room;bar - that despite being in-terconnected through the courtyardandlobby, areabletofunctionautonomously.
