Oliver Worthington II, baritone, is our guest soloist today. Oliver is a singer and teacher, performing in operas and musical theater, music festivals, and with symphonies and choral organizations, but his favorite venue is the recital stage. Oliver began teaching at the university level while completing his doctorate at The University of Texas in Austin. His current teaching duties are at Texas State University in San Marcos, Texas, where he teaches graduate performance majors and undergraduate performance and music education majors. In addition to his doctorate, Oliver has degrees from Converse College (BM) and the New England Conservatory of Music (MM). Oliver makes his home in Austin, TX, with his partner, Eric Peabody. He is visiting his sister, Kimberly Coates, and her family this weekend.
Jonathan Wright is the deacon assisting in worship today. Jonathan serves as co-chair of the Stewardship Committee. He and his wife, Stephanie, are members of the Rose/Grace Class and have three children: Bennett, Caroline and Matthew.
The flowers in the Sanctuary are given in loving memory of Mac Christopher and Mac Carpenter by Paul and Nancy Goldsmith and Dick and Annelle Locke. They who seek the Lord shall praise him – may their hearts live forever! (Psalm 22:26b, NIV)
Musical selections today include: “We Sing the Mighty Power of God” by Hal H. Hopson, © 2003 Birnamwood Publications; and “The Lord Bless You and Keep You” by Peter C. Lutkin, © 1961 Summy-Birchard Company.
Today is a fifth Sunday, a Stephen Ministry awareness day. Our Stephen Ministry consists of trained lay people who provide one-to-one confidential Christian care to people in our congregation and community who are struggling with difficult circumstances. Stephen Ministers are wearing name tags this morning and invite any question you might have about their ministry. Information can also be obtained at our church’s website.
