INTRODUCING THE 2016 JURORS

Gwen Heffner has a BA degree in ceramics and printmaking and a Masters degree in ceramics. Her work has been published in nine books and is in numerous museum collections including the Mint Museum and the American Museum of Ceramic Arts. She has marketed her porcelain via both retail and wholesale markets nationwide and was a gallery owner for thirteen years. Gwen’s curatorial work is typified by high caliber shows that are innovative in subject and scope. She has curated national traveling exhibitions for, among others, the Asheville Art Museum, Appalachian Center for Crafts, the Ohio Craft Museum, and the Southern Highland Craft Guild. She is active as a juror throughout the region for competitive exhibitions, serves as a grant panelist around the country, as an arts facilitator, and workshop presenter. Gwen is the curator, PR director and information specialist at the Kentucky Artisan Center at Berea where she handles all agency PR, curates 2-3 annual exhibitions and directs the center’s events and programming. Gwen is a ceramic artist and a strong arts advocate. She works as an arts consultant and has served on the Boards of the Kentucky Guild of Artists and Craftsmen, The Kentucky Museum of Art and Craft and the Southern Highland Craft Guild. In 2008, Gwen received the Rude Osolnik Award, Kentucky’s highest award for craft. As a practicing artist, gallery owner and now curator at the Kentucky Artisan Center, my love of curatorial work has blossomed as I work with different fine art and craft artists from all around the country.
