The situation was brought under control before the arrival of local fire service personnel.

One of the injured, factory engineer Kabir Hossain was also admitted to the hospital.

Sources said sparks from welding caused the fire as an exhaust fan was being installed on first floor of the factory building. At first, foams kept on the floor caught the fire and created a huge smoke. The fire created panic among some 1,100 workers on the ground floor of the factory. However, trained workers of the factory brought the fire under control with fire extinguisher while two units of firefighting unit joined them later, said the sources. They doused the fire at around 1.25pm. Properties worth around Tk 2.70 lakh were gutted in the fire. Three injured workers received first aid from the BEPZA Hospital.

The blaze broke out on the ground floor of Tung Hai Sweater Factory housed in an 11-storey building at Mirpur Technical crossing, around 11.05pm. ZM Monzur Morshed, additional deputy inspector general (transport) of police headquarters and Mahbubur Rahman, managing director (MD) of the factory and director of Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) died in the fire. The other people, who were also killed in the fire are: MD's three friends - Comilla district Juba League President Sohel Mostafa Swapan, Emdadur Rahman Badal and Syed Nasim Reza - the DIG's body guard Ripon Chakma, and Tung Hai Office Assistant Sahabuddin while identity of another person could not be known immediately. All the workers had left the factory by 10:00pm, a guard said.

20 0 At least 20 workers were injured in a stampede during a fire that broke out in an apparel factory at Narasinghapur of Ashulia, on the outskirts of the capital Dhaka, on Wednesday morning. Witnesses and fire fighters said that the fire had broken out on the ground floor of the multi storey building of Bandu Design Ltd. The fire immediately burnt cottons stored in the factory. As the fire alarm rang the workers rushed to come out and in stampede at least 20 workers were injured. Abdul Hamid Miah, fire service station officer in the Dhaka Export Processing Zone, said than they put out the flames soon after the incident. He said that the cause of the fire was yet to be established. The factory management said that they declared closed the factory for the day as the workers went back home.

"The workers have been sent to different hospitals after they reported stomach pain and started vomiting. We estimate the number could be up to 600.” S.M. Mannan, a vice president of the Bangladesh's Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) said, "This is an A-grade factory. It has its own water supply which comes from a deep tube well, so there is no scope for contamination. Someone might have mixed poison to the water.” Of those, who fell sick, around 40 were admitted to hospital while the rest were released after treatment, according to doctors and BGMEA officials.

Five firefighting units brought under control the fire in the 35 feet by 25 feet storeroom, locked from outside, in two and a half hours. The cause of the fire could not be known immediately. The fabric inside the room was burnt and the finished and packaged goods, stored in adjacent rooms, were destroyed by the water sprayed to douse the fire. Ashulia Police Station and Industrial Police told The Daily Star that workers of Arba Textile and Hashmatullah Knit Wears Ltd, housed in the building, quickly came out on hearing the fire alarm. “None of our workers were injured,” said Md Obaidullah, managing director of the Hashmatullah company, situated from the 3rd to the 5th floor. “But we declared our factory closed for today and will reopen on Saturday,” he said. The fire originated around 6 p.m. in the dyeing section of the factory, owned by Palmal Group. The cause of the blaze was not immediately known. Firefighters brought the flames under control around 12:45 a.m., fire service officials said. The blaze spread to a nearby chemical store and engulfed two floors, after which a boiler on the ground floor exploded, further feeding the flames.

On Friday, 3 November 2017, a fire broke out at Plummy Fashions Ltd. Factory management reported that the fire was caused by a short circuit in the control panel of a “soft setting calendar machine” (SSCM). An electrical trainee worker who was performing maintenance work on the SSCM at the time of the fire, suffered severe burns. The fire reportedly started at around 8:15 a.m. in the dyeing section of the factory building and was extinguished within 10 minutes with a CO2 fire extinguisher. The factory reported that as the fire occurred on the factory’s weekly holiday, there were no witnesses.At the time of the Accord post-fire inspection, the components to the SSCM which had caught fire had reportedly been replaced in order to continue the maintenance work. Investigation of the machine’s inverter indicated that fire occurred in the panel of the SSCM. The Accord has concluded that the fire is likely attributed to a defect/electrical problem with the machine which caught fire and not with the electrical system of the factory.

The incident took place around 12:15pm today. On information, three units of fire-fighters went to the spot and brought the blaze under control around 1:15pm, the official said. No casualty occurred in the incident, he said, adding that the boiler machine and some other equipment were damaged in the fire. The extent of damage caused by the blaze is yet to be determined.

The fire broke out at RN Spinning Mill, around 9:30pm on Monday, and engulfed the whole factory—including its warehouses—said Ratan Kumar Nath, assistant director of Comilla Fire Service and Civil Defence. 0 0 Two separate fire incidents have gutted a cotton warehouse, and garment scrap warehouses, in Gazipur. The incidents occurred in Gazipur's Konabari and Dewalia Bari around 11:30pm on Saturday. Confirming the matter to Dhaka Tribune, Joydebpur Fire Service Station Inspector and Konabari police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) said: "A cotton warehouse of Kia Spinning Mills in the area was gutted by fire on Saturday night. The fire originated, around 11pm, from an electric short circuit. The fire spread very quickly and the warehouse was locked during the fire. "Seven firefighting units operated for more than an hour to bring the fire under control." Meanwhile, confirming that the Kaliakoir fire gutted 15 garment scrap warehouses, Kaliakoir Fire Service Deputy Assistant Director of Moniranjan Sarker said: "The fire started around 9pm on Saturday.
