The first monthly meeting of Pune Chapter of MSBIRIA with the new office
bearers took place on 16th May 2012 at the Dr D Y Patil Auditorium. The
meeting was attended by 140 delegates. The monthly meeting and the ½
day CME was held with an aim to sensitize the students and consultants on
pediatric chest infections in the era of H1N1 influenza. The CME began with
dinner and followed by a short 3 minutes introduction to the event and CME
by our president Dr Satish Naware. The first lecture was the clinician’s
perspective and then proceeded to radiological investigations in a step-by-
step manner covering conventional radiology, cross sectional imaging such
as CT and finally interventions. A question and answer session was held after
every lecture.

The important point was
conveyed in a precise
manner to the audience
by Dr S R Agarkhedkar.
Select case studies
proved the point and the
audience jotted down
notes.
The talk highlighted
proactive reporting, with a
need to be specific in
diagnosis at the same
time recognize patterns of
various disease processes.

Chest radiography – a game of shadows!
Dr (Col) Vivek Sharma gave a detailed overview of
how to diagnose pediatric chest infections and
disease pattern analysis in pneumonias and
tuberculosis.
The lecture was indeed though provoking and helped
in igniting many a mind and inspiring students to take
up reading Felson with zeal and enthusiasm.
Consultants found revisiting chest radiography worth
the effort, they were able to update their information
and revise reporting to make it more informative.

was very informative.
The lecture started with
the basics of CT chest
imaging and planning.
CT protocols were
discussed in detail and
importance and
precautions while using IV
contrast were revised.
Various MDCT protocols
were discussed in detail.
Finally the select case
studies helped the
residents to get a bird’s
eye perspective of chest
imaging.

Pediatric chest infections
such as empyema are
quite common.
Adequate and successful
drainage is necessary and
vital to help reducing
mortality and morbidity.
Plenty of case studies
were discussed and
various methodologies’ to
tackle such complicated
issues were imbibed.
Vascular and nonvascular
interventions were
discussed in detail.
The lecture was a glimpse
to the students and
consultants to the vast
scope of applications in a
super speciality field of
interventions in pediatric
chest.
Concluding remarks
