Forty Cans for Lent is a Knights of Columbus charity
program that connects traditional Lenten alms-giving with
the nutritional needs of poor families in the area. It is
a simple, straightforward one-can-per-day donation,
inspired by Christ’s 40 days of fasting in the desert.
The Knights of Columbus invites you to participate in this
Lenten program by bringing canned food items to church with
you during Lent. We want to fill the cross with cans…and
build a mound of cans as we prepare our hearts and turn
around our lives to celebrate the Resurrection of the Lord on
Easter Sunday.
Cuarenta latas para la Cuaresma es un programa de
caridad de los Caballeros de Colón que conecta la limosna
tradicional de Cuaresma con las necesidades nutricionales de
las familias pobres de la zona. Es una donación simple de
una lata por dia, inspirada por los 40 días de ayuno de Cristo

Missions has an opening for a food pantry associate.
Summary: Provide the necessary assistance of
picking/dropping up food and Gift in Kind items
according to schedule and to promote the values of
Sacred Heart Southern Missions.
Requirements:
High school diploma or GED
A minimum of three years’ experience directly related to
the job duties and responsibilities.
Three years of driving experience. (Box Truck) Must
have valid Driver’s license
Ability to read and interpret documents; read, write, and
understand English well; and communicate effectively
both orally and in writing.
Ability to lift at least 50 lbs. on a regular basis.
Occasional travel required throughout our five counties.
Salary: Commensurate with experience

FAMILY IDEAS
As the Eucharistic Prayer continues, the priest prays in
the name of all of us. He asks God to accept our offering.
The prayer to god concludes, “All glory and honor is
yours forever and ever. We respond “Amen” which
means ‘so be it’ or ‘yes’. This amen is our ‘yes’ to what
was prayed by the priest in the name of us all.
Share stories of hop and joy with your children.
These can be personal stories or stories from a TV
news program, newspaper, online news source, or
magazine. Good things are happening in our
communities. We can choose to look for the positive
in life and pass on that hope to our children.
Remember to express love and appreciation to one
another in your family. Also take time to listen to
each other. Remind your children that god always
loves them. Only when people feel loved are they
able to share love with others.
FAMILY PRAYER
Amazing God, we give glory to your holy name and
rejoice in all that you have done for us. Through the Holy
Spirit we offer the gift of our Lord Jesus Christ in the
Eucharist. May our family give you praise in all we say
and do, and may we live always in faith, in hope, and in
love!
NOTE TO FIRST COMMUNION FAMILIES
Encourage your child to receive both the consecrated
bread and the wine (Jesus’ Body and Blood) at first
Communion and thereafter. This is how Jesus did it at the
Last Supper with his disciples. It is the fullest expression
of what the sacrament of the Eucharist means.
EN ESPAÑOL En la oración final de la Eucaristía el sacerdote dice

Sabemos que Jesús Cristo está presente en la Eucaristía.

A CALL TO HOLINESS BY
POPE FRANCIS.
51. When God speaks to Abraham, he tells him: “I am
God Almighty, walk before me, and be blameless” (Gen
17:1). In order to be blameless, as he would have us, we
need to live humbly in his presence, cloaked in his glory;
we need to walk in union with him, recognizing his
constant love in our lives. We need to lose our fear before
that presence which can only be for our good. God is the
Father who gave us life and loves us greatly. Once we
accept him, and stop trying to live our lives without him,
the anguish of loneliness will disappear (cf. Ps 139:23-
24). In this way we will know the pleasing and perfect
will of the Lord (cf. Rom 12:1-2) and allow him to mould
us like a potter (cf. Is 29:16). So often we say that God
dwells in us, but it is better to say that we dwell in him,
that he enables us to dwell in his light and love. He is our
temple; we ask to dwell in the house of the Lord all the
days of our life (cf. Ps 27:4). “For one day in your courts
is better than a thousand elsewhere” (Ps 84:10). In him is
our holiness.

51. Cuando Dios se dirige a Abraham le dice: «Yo soy
Dios todopoderoso, camina en mi presencia y sé
perfecto» (Gn 17,1). Para poder ser perfectos, como a él
le agrada, necesitamos vivir humildemente en su
presencia, envueltos en su gloria; nos hace falta caminar
en unión con él reconociendo su amor constante en
nuestras vidas. Hay que perderle el miedo a esa presencia
que solamente puede hacernos bien. Es el Padre que nos
dio la vida y nos ama tanto. Una vez que lo aceptamos y
dejamos de pensar nuestra existencia sin él, desaparece la
angustia de la soledad (cf. Sal 139,7). Y si ya no ponemos
distancias frente a Dios y vivimos en su presencia,
podremos permitirle que examine nuestro corazón para
ver si va por el camino correcto (cf. Sal 139,23-24). Así
conoceremos la voluntad agradable y perfecta del Señor
(cf. Rm 12,1-2) y dejaremos que él nos moldee como un
alfarero (cf. Is 29,16). Hemos dicho tantas veces que Dios
habita en nosotros, pero es mejor decir que nosotros
habitamos en él, que él nos permite vivir en su luz y en su
amor. Él es nuestro templo: lo que busco es habitar en la
casa del Señor todos los días de mi vida (cf. Sal 27,4).
«Vale más un día en tus atrios que mil en mi casa»(Sal
84,11). En él somos santificados.

the poor in our neighborhoods.
