Stress makes you believe that everything has to happen immediately.

Faith reassures you that everything happens in God’s timing.

“Overflowing” Leah McGlynn, guest speaker

Communion notes: Since we are back to in-person worship now, we will resume offering communion on the first Sunday of each month, with a few differences. First, we are using all-in-one sealed containers, and we’ll ask you to take them home at the end of the service instead of consuming them during the service. Second, since only a few manufacturers make these containers, we will not be able to offer them in gluten-free variations. We hope to have a solution eventually, but we do not have one yet.

Cleaners! We are looking for volunteers to help clean, especially following the 8:30 a.m. service. The more we have, the faster it will go. We encourage you to volunteer for one service and worship during the other service. We estimate two cleaners per service, and up to five following 8:30. If you don’t want to sign up as a “cleaner,” simply stay around in the pews after everyone is dismissed, and you’ll get a solution to use for cleaning!

August 9 and 16: Pastor Brian will be spending family time with his in-laws in North Carolina this week, beginning Monday. In order to follow the same guidelines we have had to ask others to follow, he will be out of the pulpit Sundays August 9 and 16. Leah McGlynn, our deacon candidate, will be preaching those two weeks, which will also help her candidacy process.

Assisted Listening Device Availability

The new Listen Everywhere assisted listening system is now online for use. It transmits sanctuary audio over Wi-Fi to individual smart phones, tablets, and other Wi-Fi enabled devices, allowing listeners to use their own personal headset or earbuds.

The Listen Everywhere app can be downloaded at home, so you can be prepared to log-in when arriving at church. AV team members will also be available to assist you in downloading the app and logging on, if necessary. A quick setup guide will be also be posted in the narthex when you arrive.

While the church’s regular ALS receivers will be available for your use, you will need to sign them out, individually, to make sure that receivers are not shared amongst users.

Thank you for the cards, calls, and prayers as we mourn the death of Dick’s brother, Robert Royster.

— Dick and Kay Royster

The family of Jackie Ray Mayo wishes to express their loving gratitude for your cards, calls, and presence during the past weeks. She truly loved each of you, and your kindness and love has been received. Heaven is a bit sweeter with Jackie’s presence there. We love our church family. Thank you for your comfort during this time of sorrow.

Gratefully yours, Ron Mayo and Family

Collecting School Supplies

Betty Knaub says that she has seen advertisements for school supplies on sale, and several people have asked her about them. So far, she has not been able to speak with anyone at the school, but she recommends that those who would like to get some school supplies while they are on sale should go ahead and purchase them. She says to please keep them at home until she knows what needs to be done. For those getting filler paper, get wide-ruled, not college-ruled. Other items that go quickly are glue sticks, pencils, erasers, scissors, tissues, and hand sanitizer. If schools are opened, children will not be allowed to share supplies, so boxes of 24 crayons will be also needed. Thank you in advance for your help!

by Lynn Landrum, Nursery Coordinator

First UMC Fox Hill is fortunate to have superb nursery attendants, who made life in the nursery flow extremely easy on our first day back in worship.

FACEMASKS: Everyone, from workers to children, wore a facemask while in the nursery. A pleasant surprise was that the little ones did not seem to mind having them on. At one point, a little one moved hers up to hide her eyes; however, after explaining to her the importance of wearing it properly, there were no further problems with the facemask.

SOCIAL DISTANCING: This is the area that was most difficult for the little ones to understand. It was worked out perfectly by the attendant and the assistant. Each took responsibility of a little one and did what was necessary to keep them six feet apart.

CLEANING: The nursery was sanitized before the children arrived. Prior to the children entering the nursery and when leaving (at the end of the service), they were assisted by the nursery attendants in washing/sanitizing their hands. Toys were sanitized throughout the morning. As a child finished playing with a toy it was sprayed with disinfectant spray prior to the next child picking it up. (This task kept our attendants extremely busy). Everything in the nursery was sprayed with disinfectant spray prior to closing for the day. Linens were taken home by the nursery coordinator to be washed.

A big thank you to Jessica Burns & Samma Chong for a job well done! We look forward to more of our children returning to church in the coming weeks!

Annual Pecan Sale

The United Methodist Women have ordered pecans again this year to support the United Methodist Mission at Wesley Community Service Center, according to Joyce Winston. The pecan company says that the freshest pecans will be available late August or early September. When received, the UMW will arrange a time for sale and pickup.
