Welcome Back! It’s always exciting to begin another school year, es-pecially at FJH. A lot is in store for students, parents, community members, and the FJH staff. This year’s theme is Discover Your Su-perpower. Students are already doing very well getting around cam-pus and we anticipate smooth sailing as the year progresses.

Parents have always played a major role in the success of all we do at FJH. As always, we are asking parents to become an equal part-ner in their child’s success at school. To do this, we are continuing to expand our communication avenues to allow parents to look at their child’s progress on a daily basis, and also be able to quickly know what has been assigned or is coming due. Here are some of the methods we are using to help you keep up with what’s happening at school:

FJH Student Planners – All students were given a student planner on the first day of school. Teachers will be ensuring that students write assignments in their planner daily. It will be part of every parent’s responsibility to check their child’s planner frequently.

Teacher Web – Every teacher at FJH maintains a web page that you can access through the FJH website. You can easily find out what each of your child’s teachers are planning, what’s for homework, what projects and assignments are due, and other useful information.

Student Progress Center –Using your assigned pin number, you will be able to check your child’s current progress and attendance. This information will be kept as current as possible, and should provide you with an easy way to keep track of the issues all parents need to know.

Student ID’s – Students must wear their ID’s every day for use in the Cafeteria and the Library. Between the student planners, teacher web, and the Student Progress Center, parents have a seamless way of finding out what is expected of their child and how they are progressing. In addi-tion, teachers will be communicating with you via email and phone, as well as through district is-sued interim and report cards. We need all of our parents to make a commitment to partner with us to establish high expectations and accountability for students. This type of communication helps make our school-to-home relationship transparent. The more you know, and the sooner you know it, the quicker we can all head off academic problems. It is much easier to help our children as they progress, than to wait until there is a larger issue. By continuing to increase our communication with each other, we all take on the responsibilities of meeting our student’s educational needs and keep-ing FJH a great school. For our theme, Discover Your Superpower, to be effective for our students, all of us need to be committed to our mission. Again…welcome to Fontainebleau Jr. High. We look forward to helping your child succeed and in-vite you to contact us at any time. Together, we’ll make the 2014 –15 school year, the best ever!

Welcome Back! It’s so great to see everyone again.

For those of you who are new to our school, my column’s sole purpose is to inform you of upcoming events and to recognize students or groups for their achievements. For your infor-mation, all of this can also be found on our website at fontainebleaujunior.stpsb.org.

Our Southern Living Cookie Dough fundraiser kicked off on August 20th and will run through September 3rd. We are also selling “To Remember This” Memory books. We appreciate your support with this very important fundraiser.

And speaking of support, please remember to visit our website at http://fontainebleaujunior.stpsb.org/generalinfo/saveours.html (or click on general info button/support our school on the home page) for a list of other establishments you can visit who donate part of their proceeds to FJH. We greatly appreciate it!

Our CANES football and girl’s volleyball seasons have begun. Full schedules and rosters are published in this newsletter and/or on our website.

Our first Cane Cash Day is Sept. 18th. More info to follow.

September 26th will be our first Spirit Day and Smoothie Day. On Spirit Day, students are

allowed to wear an FJH spirit shirt of some sort (club, athletic, etc.), but they must wear their regular uniform bottoms. For smoothies, students will have the chance to prepay for a smoothie to be distributed to them on that Friday afternoon. More information will be sent out as we get closer to the date.

I have received e-mails from several of you wanting to volunteer and have forwarded your messages along to the PTA volunteer coordinator, Connie Richard. Thank you so much for wanting to help as our school relies heavily on our wonderful volunteers to help us get through each day. If you signed up to volunteer and notice by the end of this month that you are not receiving emails regarding any help you can offer, please let me know.

If you have any questions, please feel free to call me at 875-7501 or e-mail me at ([email protected]). E-mailing provides for a quicker response. I look forward to meeting many new faces this year as well as working with many familiar faces.

Welcome to Fontainebleau Junior High. We hope your child has a positive experience at

our school. Below are a few helpful tips to help your child grow and thrive in junior high:

    1. Spend quality time with your child.

    2. Get to know your child’s friends.

    3. Help your child set long and short-term goals.

    4. Pay close attention to your child’s moods, eating habits and sleeping patterns.

    5. Don’t always feel like you have to fix your child’s problems. Sometimes they just need

someone to listen to them. Be available to listen.

    6. Daily attendance at school is very important.

    7. Encourage them to get involved in activities at school. They will meet new people and

    develop friendships.

    8. Help your child get organized.

    9. Make sure your child knows basic social behaviors (please, thank you, excuse me, etc.).

    10. All children should have household responsibilities. These help to build your child’s self-esteem.

    11. Encourage independent problem solving skills. Don’t be eager to solve all their prob

lems for them. Children become more confident when they solve their own prob

    lems.

    12. Provide a stable home environment.

    13. Provide a quiet space at home for doing homework and studying.

    14. Be a good role model for your child. They learn from their parents more than anyone

    else.

    15. Teach them that it is okay to make mistakes and to admit when they have made one.

    16. Celebrate your child’s unique abilities.

    17. Your child needs you to be their parent. They have friends.

    18. Pay close attention to what your child is doing on the computer and cell phone.

Welcome back to school, Students, Parents, Teachers and Staff. FJH is off to a busy start! We want to

thank all of you who have joined PTA already and extend the invitation again to those who have not yet

joined. Our goal is to have 100% membership for Fontainebleau Jr. High School. That means every child

has a PTA member on his or her side. Presently, we have over 900 students but only 394 members. A

membership form is on the back of this newsletter for those who still need one

We sincerely hope you will take the opportunity to join our organization as an individual or as a corporate

member. When you get involved in PTA, the children who benefit the most are your own and the children

of FJH. Your PTA memberships help sponsor the Reflections and Safety Poster Programs, student dances,

and teacher appreciation functions throughout the year. Our efforts are not successful without the active

support of our parents, teachers and staff. If you have any questions or suggestions, please contact one of

the board members. We welcome your input. Also, please keep an eye on the school website for opportu-

nities to volunteer at FJH and help make your child’s junior high school experience a pleasant one. Thank

    you for your support.

    Sincerely yours,

    Jennifer Bryant

FJH PTA Participates in ForTheSchools.com Fundraising Program

ForTheSchools.com makes raising for the FJH PTA very easy. They convert something our

members already do every day - shop online - into cash back. Parents, family, and friends just find the school they'd like to support, connect to it with a free account, and shop at the

stores they normally do. That's it!

Go to www.fortheschools.com/id/55650/fontainebleau-junior-high-school to sign up or get

    more information.

Check out the ForTheSchools.com flyer on page 13 for a special FJH bonus!
