FLEXIBLE METAL HOSES

STAINLESS STEEL METAL HOSESThe HAM-LET Flexible Metal Hose is designed to carry gases and
liquids at elevated rates of pressure and temperature or high vacuum,
in a vibrating environment or where flexibility is required.
The hose is composed from an inner hydroformed, corrugated thin-
walled tube that is externally braided or unbraided for vacuum service.
The flexible tube can be welded to a variety of fittings and connectors,
allowing compatibility with industry interfaces.

HOW TO SELECTWhen selecting a Flexible Metal Hose,
consider the following 5 variables:
1. Temperature
2. Dynamic pressure-carrying capability
3. Flexibility
4. Chemical compatibility
5. Optional accessories
1. TEMPERATUREAs the temperature increases, hose working pressure decreases.
After you have determined the proper alloy (see “Chemical
Compatibility” below), go to Table #2 “Working pressure de-rating
factor” and match the alloy of the hose and braid with the highest
temperature to which they will be exposed (either internally or
externally) to obtain the proper de-rating factors. Then multiply the
hose’s maximum working pressure by the most limiting temperature
de-rating factor.
2. DYNAMIC PRESSUREPulsating, surge or shock pressures, like those encountered by
quick opening or closing valves, can inflict severe damage on a
hose. If your application entails pulsating pressures, the working
pressure should be de-rated by 1/2. If your application entails shock
pressures, de-rate the stated working pressure to 1/6 of its value.
Example : 1/4” hose - T316L stainless steel hose and T304 stainless
steel braid at 300°F with the shock pressures:
Catalog Maximum Working Pressure = 1800 psi
Temperature De-rating Factor at 300°F = 0.86
Pressure De-rating Factor = 1/6
Maximum Application Working Pressure = 1800 PSI x 0.86 x 1/6 =
258 psi
3. FLEXIBILITYVerify that the minimum bend radius of the hose is less than the bend
radius required. Remember that the hose’s minimum bend radius will
change with pressure. To determine the minimum bend radius refer to
the chart in Table #1 for the type of hose you intend to use. Match the
line for the hose’s I.D. with the pressure requirement of your hose to
find the recommended bend radius for our hoses
4. CHEMICAL COMPATIBILITY The material that you choose for the hose and braid must be
compatible with the media that will flow through the hose, as well
as the environment in which the hose is installed. When determining
chemical compatibility, be sure that you know the temperature and
concentration of the chemical or chemicals. Although there are many
resources to confirm chemical compatibility, two of the industry
standards that you may find useful are the National Association of
Corrosion Engineers (NACE) and the Compass Corrosion Guides.
5. ACCESSORIESOptional accessories include spring guards, protective covers and
insulating covers.
Select the right component for your safety The total design of the system must be taken into consideration when selecting components in order to ensure that your Ham-Let products provide safe, trouble-free operation. It is the responsibility of the system designer and the user to consider the compatibility of the materials, of the components and system, the function of the component, appropriate rating, and to insure proper installation, operation and maintenance.

MINIMUM BEND RADIUS (FOR HHF)
To calculate a working pressure de-rated for elevated temperatures, multiply the hose working pressure shown in the catalog by the appropriate de-rating factor shown in Table #2.Note: The working pressure of an assembly at elevated temperatures may be affected by fitting type, material and method of attachment.

TEFLON® FLEXIBLE HOSES HHT&HHTS SERIES

Basic Structure:HHT-Stainless Steel Braided Teflon®.
High Flexibility The highest flexibility available in sizes 1/2”, 3/4” and 1” inside
diameter
Tighter bends are possible - more ‘true’ application use without
damage
Less force-to-bend - hose does not flatten in the bend area, thus is
not susceptible to kink or vacuum collapse.
Full Size Inside Diameter:
Not tube size!
1/4” is 0.250 (1/4”) inside diameter - not 0.187 (3/16”) id and 1/2” is
0.500 (1/2”) not 0.406 (13/32”)
HAM-LET’s hose yields the highest flow rate per size because of its
full size tube so fittings can be machined with a bigger
inside diameter; a diameter that mates identically with connected
tubing.
The result is minimal or no pressure drop due to dimensional differences.
The internal surface of the fitting can be machined with no steps, which
is where corrosion starts, bacterial growth begins, flow is disrupted.
HAM-LET hoses are made of Dupont Teflon® T-62 as its core resin
material. This particular resin has superior flex characteristics, and thus
better kink resistance.
T-62 is validated for high purity service.1. Approved U.S. Pharmacopoeia Class VI
2. Approved Food and Drug Administration (FDA) 21CFR177.1550
3. Exceeds 3A Sanitary Standards
4. U.S.D.A. Approved
TEFLON®FLEXIBLE HOSES
GENERALThe Teflon® hose is the ideal solution for permanent or temporary connections. It makes fabrication easier, and it facilitates connect/disconnect and cleaning. Variable length, high flexibility, high pressures and broad chemical compatibility are among the features that make this hose suitable for any application. HAM-LET Teflon® hoses are available in single stainless-steel braid or double–fiberglass & stainless-steel braid.
TECHNICAL DATAHose diameters available: 1/4, 3/8, 1/2, 3/4, 1” Pressure rating: 1000 through 3200 psi (70 ~ 220 bar)Temperature rating: -100º ~ +450º F (-73º ~ + 232ºC) End connectors available: LET-LOK®, ONE-LOK®, Male & Female Face-Seal, Male NPT, Mini and Standard Sanitary Flange.
TEFLON® is a Registered trademark of Dupont
WHERE CAN A TEFLON® HOSE BE USED? HAM-LET TEFLON® HOSE FEATURES:
Almost anywhere! It can handle high pressures; it withstands hundreds
of thousands of flex cycles; it is unaffected by weather or age; and
it conveys almost any media. Teflon® is non-stick and temperature
resistant. Steam clean/sterilization cycles are practically not limited.
There is no material with a broader range of chemical compatibility
than Teflon®. The only known classes of chemicals that attack Teflon®
are molten alkali metals such as Sodium, Lithium, and Potassium.
Halogenated chemicals such as fluorine gas or chlorine tri-fluoride
are not recommended because certain Halogen compounds such as
Freon can permeate (diffuse) through tubing of Teflon®.
Chemical compatibility:Teflon® has one of the highest levels of chemical compatibility.
Following is the list of materials that require some level of
consideration:
The following materials are not recommended for use with Teflon® hosing:
Elemental Sodium
Elemental Potassium
Elemental Lithium
The materials listed below are only questionable if conveyed in conjunction with high temperature and pressure and/or a combination thereof:
Fluorine (F2)
Chlorine Tri-Fluoride (CIF3)
