the Ability to focus on more than one thing at one time. Highest level of attention; Difficult to maintain. Reduced ability to remember. For Example: Talking on the phone while getting dressed or while cooking.

2. SELECTIVE ATTENTION IS…
Ability to focus on certain things while ignoring others.

3. FOCUSED ATTENTION IS…
Ability to focus on one thing without being distracted by other stimuli. This state can be physically and mentally tiring. Most behaviors are a combination of focused attention and divided attention.

4. SUSTAINED ATTENTION IS…
Ability to focus on one task only over a time period of 10 minutes or more. For example: Focusing while playing Solitaire, Paying attention to a short lecture.

5. ALTERNATING ATTENTION IS…
Ability to alternate focus back and forth between two different tasks. For example: Alternating between cooking and helping your child with their homework.
