This week was the children's first full week of school, and they have done BRILLIANTLY! They seem really settled and excited to come and learn new things in school which is great to see. This week the children

have been learning about transitioning into school with particular emphasis on class routines and general classroom behaviour. The children have learnt a little bit about their class name and the different types

of activities they are able to do during the day.

This week was the children's very first full week in school and we are so proud of how well they have settled in!

The children seem really happy coming into school and eager to start their learning. This week the children have been learning about classroom routines and behaviours.

The children have started becoming familiar with their learning environment and where to place their belongings.

The fabulous Year 2 children have been working really hard this week showing positivity and commitment in their learning. As part of our #Heritage topic the children have been researching their

class names and then written blogs telling the readers all about their amazing classes! Some have even drawn (as part of their homework) beautiful castles of their own which they will de describing next

week. In Maths we have been looking at comparing and ordering numbers, and we have been really impressed by the children's understanding. We have also been learning about Judaism as part of our Religious Education curriculum. We look forward to next week where as part of our Science lessons

there will be some new visitors joining our classes - watch this space!

This week in Year 3 we continued our swimming and French lessons. Also we stared our Science lessons, discussing about how we can keep ourselves healthy.

Finally we started learning and practicing our ‘school rule song’ which we sing at the top of our lungs in assembly.

This week in Year 4 has been a busy week! In Science, we learnt all about Electrical Safety.

In Computers, we learnt about QR codes. Have you seen them printed on the packaging of your latest gadgets? Or have you seen them on business cards or even painted onto buildings? People and companies use them to store and distribute all kinds of information, in a manner that is quickly

accessible to anyone with a smartphone/tablet.

In History, we learnt the order of Tudor Monarchs and looked at the Tudor family tree in order to understand the connections within the Tudor family. Have you got a family tree to share with your

children? If you don't then can you spend time making one?

We look forward to another exciting week next week in year 4.

This week, Year 6 have explored their first writing piece of the year. Since our History topic is centred

around the Tudor period, pupils are writing a persuasive letter to King Henry VIII in an effort to convince

him to behead his current wife (Anne Boleyn) and marry Jane Seymour.

We have thoroughly enjoyed researching and discussing the arguments to support this and uncovering

weird and wonderful facts about the reputable Anne Boleyn. Each class has focused on the various

techniques necessary to successfully persuade Henry and has shown great commitment.

In SFA, we have been practising how to answer different question types in preparation for SATs next

year.

WORD OF THE WEEK

We are continuing to use last week’s Word of the Week: Heritage

Heritage is to do with the background we come from and the shared culture we live in.

Example To Use In A Sentence: Mr Daly is from London but he is proud of his Irish heritage.

Please encourage your child to use the word Heritage as many times as possible.

In Year 5 this week, we have been learning about Earth and Space in Science. It has been fantastic to see the pupils showing great interest and understanding in this topic. In R.E we having been learning about different religions and faiths. In Maths we have been rounding numbers up to 1,000,000, Next we are

moving onto adding two 3 digit number’s together. It has been great to see them making progress already in this area.

The Year 5 team would like to thank all of the parents that came along to our ‘Meet the Teacher’ morning and for their continued support. These partnerships are really important to help the children

make progress this year!

Our attendance has got off to a good start this year - please see the percentages below! We want as many classes as possible to be in green (over 97%) - this means that class have maximised the opportunities for learning that week. Amber is for 94% - 96% and red is for below 93%. Our expectations are high and there should be few classes each week in red. You will also see we identify the number of late arrivals to school each week. Our pupils MUST come in with their class each day rather than consistently signing in at the office. We know children feel embarrassed and unsettled when they arrive late and this can impact on the rest of their day. Please help your child by making sure they come in with their class at 08:55. Doors are shut promptly.

We have signs up outside each classroom that identify if that class has every one in on that day and whether everyone was in on time. This is important as pupils, staff and visitors can see what great emphasis we place on attendance and punctuality and it closely links with our PUPAC value of urgency - every minute in school counts!

Miss Elcock, our Education Welfare Officer, has started meeting with parents and carers already and we know her support is useful to our families. If you wish to see her, she is in every Friday and is happy to meet to discuss any concerns.

The attendance trophies this week will go to 1 Hatfield House in KS1 and 3 Elizabeth Tudor in KS2. Punctuality trophies will go to 2 Ludlow Castle and 3 Thomas Wolsey.
