Today during class time is our annual Breakfast in Bethlehem – our Christmas pageant with refreshments and activities which help reinforce the message of the birth of Jesus Christ, Who is the fulfillment of God’s promises. Where would we be if Mary had said “no,” or “maybe later” to God’s message sent via the angel Gabriel? Pastor’s Column Rejoice!
Today has traditionally been called “Gaudete Sunday.” The Latin tag is derived from Paul’s appeal in the second reading to “rejoice always in the Lord,” and the Latin Mass text based on that reading. The irony and paradox of this Christian joy is underlined by the fact that Paul wrote those words in prison. But from there he could see the progress of God’s work.
Is it obvious to us? We feel that this is not the time for joy when there is so much suffering and moral evil. It is interesting, then, that the first reading is from the prophet Zephaniah, who is almost exclusively concerned with gloomy visions of Judgment Day. Today the Church selects the only optimistic text in Zephaniah, in which the prophet has been touched by the spirit of joy.
This, we are assured on all sides, is “the season of joy.” Let us recapture that feeling of joy in our lives and reflect it to those who are joyless.
Thank you to everyone who selected an item from the Advent Angel Tree or who has
contributed in other ways. We are truly blessed by your kindness!
In the rush of the Christmas season, let us not forget to focus our thoughts,
our hearts and our minds on Christ, the very reason we celebrate.

and financial assistance. We also would like to recognize those Parishioners who volunteered their time these past weeks at the Stocking Store. We will be able to bring much happiness and holiday cheer to so many of our deployed troops. You have helped us to let them know that we are thinking of them while they are in harms way!
Music Ministry Choral selection at 10:30 A.M. Mass for 12.16
There are many musical settings of the “Ave Maria.” This setting by Anton Bruckner (1824-1896) was composed in Linz and performed in the Cathedral there in 1861. It was scored for seven unaccompanied voices. Bruckner was the Cathedral organist and was also from 1860 director of the Liedertafel (choral society).
The first section of the Ave Maria is based on the Annunciation and on the Visitation. All voices united proclaim the name "Jesus" three times in growing intensity. The second part begins in canon on "Sancta Maria", and evolves diminuendo when Mary is asked to "pray for us sinners". Bruckner applies his understanding of older styles to express his personal faith with simplicity but "Romantic sensibility of expression".

Office hours at Cathedral and All Saints are 8:30 a.m. until 4 p.m. Mon through Fri. Thank you for your support.
Pray for our priests, seminarians, and religious. Obtain for us the grace of many more. Please offer your reception of Holy Communion on the first Sunday of the month for vocations.

cereals, old fashioned oats, add water pancake mix, coffee, tea, low fat evaporated milk, flour, protein bars, dried fruits, nuts, peanut butter, jelly, low sodium hearty soups, canned meats and fish, rice and beans, pasta and crushed or diced tomatoes, canned lite fruit, natural low sugar applesauce, canned low sodium vegetables, olive oil or canola oil, bar soap, shampoo, toilet paper and toothpaste. Our collection is the Dec. 29/30.
MARRIAGE MOMENTS: Spouses, even very loving spouses, sometimes need a "Do Over." When you catch yourself (or you are caught) saying or doing something hurtful, be humble enough to ask for a Do Over. Apologize. Rephrase your statement in a more sensitive way.
