St. Pius X School Pre-Kindergarten

for ages 3 & 4

The St. Pius X School Pre-Kindergarten program offers

the best of both worlds, the RI Early Learning Standards and the Diocese of

Providence pre-kindergarten guidelines. It is more than just a day care, and generally less expensive.

The young students get hands-on experience in a center-based environment

housed in our new wing.

In addition to classroom instruction and interpersonal skill training, our students

receive music and art instruction from our specials teachers, as well as library time. They also learn drama by performing at

our assemblies. Students experience community service by visiting our

neighboring nursing home, bringing smiles to the elderly through their

companionship and song.

For a tour, please call 596-5735.

Please support the Crusader Golf Classic

Monday, August 1, 2016

at the Potowomut Country Club.

Proceeds fund the Prout athletic trainer and supervision of the Crusader Fitness room. You can register to play or be a sponsor on

the Prout website at www.theproutschool.org/.

Registration deadline is July 11.

For questions please contact Kelly Moniz at [email protected].

The Book Club will meet again on Monday, July 11, at noon

in the Parish Center.

We will be discussing The Linen Queen by Patricia Falvey

and also The Girl on the Train by Paula Hakins.

Hopefully, many members will have had enough time to read both books.

In addition, we will be selecting books to add to our reading list for the coming months, Please refer to two lists sent out by Carolyn in May and June, starting with

Norwegian by Night and ending with The Murderer's Daughter.

Six books will be chosen from these titles, so be ready to name your favorite.

(No new books, please.)

100 Things to Always Remember…. and One Thing to Never

Forget

New journeys await you. Decisions lie ahead, wondering…. what you will do; where you will go;

how you will choose when the choices are yours.

Remember that good decisions come back to bless you, over and over again. Work for the ability to choose

wisely , to prosper, to succeed. Listen with your heart as well as your head, to the glimmers of truth that

provide advice and inspiration. And let those truths take you to beautiful places.

Touch the sky, and in your reach,

believe, achieve and aspire.

I hope your tomorrows take you to the summit of your goals, and your joys take you even higher.

TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION Some say tomato—and some say tomahto—you know the old song. What do you say when you arrive at church and see a font prepared, a baby in the wings, the paschal candle burning? Well, maybe you will say that “we’re having a baptism today,” or maybe you say “we are having a christening.” The proper term is baptism, since that is the name of the sacrament. But the persistent use of “christening” in our culture, probably from due to the influence of the Episcopal Church, is interesting. Baptism, an ancient word, is from the Greek meaning to dip or to dunk. Christening is an Old English word that describes perfectly well that more than getting splashed with water, the person being baptized is being “Christ-ed.” No matter what you call it, there’s always water involved, and then an anointing with chrism—fragrant olive oil consecrated as a sign of Christ’s presence—poured upon the brow as we say, “As Christ was anointed Priest, Prophet, and King, so may you live always as a member of his body, sharing everlasting life.” So, in being Christ-ed, you are conformed to His image, your life is expected to be a retelling of His life in miniature and you—even though you may be squirming or sleeping—are commissioned to be a priest, a prophet, a king. This means that you are called to be one who worships, you are called to speak the truth, you are called to shape the world and exercise right judgment. That is the deepest treasure of our tradition, and every time you gather to celebrate a baptism, you renew your vows precisely so that you can be more “Christ-ed.” No matter what vocabulary you assign to the liturgy, the key is transformation of the human person in the community of the Body of Christ.
