Fr. McNelis Council #1481 OCTOBER 2018 Ed. https://kofc1481.org
Grand Knight: Michael Morris — Deputy Grand Knight: Bob Dalecki — Financial Secretary: Kevin Strezo — Treasurer: Jeff Bacha
Firstly, I would like to express my deepest condolenc-es to Fr. Tom Federline and his family on the passing of their father, SK Jim Federline. Jim was a Brother Knight (a Sir Knight at that) in our Council, the father of our Council Chaplain (Fr. Tom), and a great friend who will be sadly missed by many people in the Indi-ana community. Rest in Peace, Brother Jim.
It is hard to sound excited while grieving the loss of a great friend, however SK Jim was always excited about his faith, so what better way to honor him then by carrying on in his memory.
We have started with a busy and productive year and have much more to look forward to. Let's extend a warm welcome to our first new brother knight of the year, Br. Mike Shero. I sincerely feel that Mike will be an asset to our council. In addition, I’d like to extend a congrat-ulations to Br. Charles Spadafora on receiving his 2nd Degree last month!
Wow, what a great job our new editor, Br. Michael D. Kostick, has done with the newsletter. Please keep articles flowing to him so we will all be informed of everything going on.
I would like to give a special thanks to Br. John Hardesty for accept-ing my invitation to be the C.O.A.L. program chairman. Please help with selling C.O.A.L. and Football Sweeps tickets as they are great fundraisers for our council.
Please see our calendar for the following upcoming events:
The Life chain on Philadelphia Street
40 Days for Life Prayer Vigils at Planned Parenthood in Pittsburgh
Baby Bottle Campaigns at all the churches of our council
Life Choices Banquet
November will bring the Hoss's Fundraiser, selling St. Anne's Home calendars, and our council's annual Memorial Mass to honor our de-ceased brother knights.
This month's meeting of the Greensburg Chapter K of C will be held Monday, 15 October, in Lucernemines. Rosary will begin at 7:15p followed by the meeting. I pray you will take advantage of this oppor-tunity to enjoy fellowship with other knights from the Greensburg Dio-cese and hear the things that their councils are doing.
Lastly, all brother knights of our council are invited to our council meeting Wednesday, 10 October at 7p. A lot of information is shared at the council meeting, along with great Catholic fellowship. Please come out to support your council and share your thoughts and ideas.

The Knights of Columbus have demonstrated in many ways our support for the protection of life, including through the annual Baby Bottle Campaign. All mon-eys collected go to support the "My Choice Pregnancy Center" next to the IUP Campus. This pregnancy center receives no state or federal funding to keep their doors open. Since this cen-ter opened in 2013, 94 lives have been saved in situations where the mother was considering abor-tion. Brothers, your help is need-ed to be speakers and to distribute the Bottles after the Masses at St. Thomas More University Parish [6-7 October], St. Bernard of Clairvaux Parish [13-14 Octo-ber] and Resurrection Parishes [6-7, 13/14, & 20/21 October]. Contact me via email ([email protected]) or cell (724.467.2991) to serve the Coun-cil for this worthy program.

Next month we will once again be hosting a community night fundraiser at Hoss’s Restaurant in Indiana, PA on Sunday, 4 November. A portion of the cost of meals will be donated to the K of C #1481 Coun-cil for any group that uses the Cash Cow Card on this date.
In preparation for this fundraiser, we will need brother knights to help hand out fundraiser cards after all Masses at St. Bernard of Clairvaux [Sat. 4p; Sun. 8a &10a] and St. Thomas More University Parish [Sat. 6p; Sun. 10a] on Saturday and Sunday, 3 & 4 No-vember. All fundraiser cards will include information about the event. Please contact me via phone (724.422.5829) or email ([email protected]) for any additional information.

Website Chairman
My name is Br. John Hardesty and I have been selected as the new C.O.A.L. Program Chairman for K of C #1481.
Your C.O.A.L. ticket booklet was included with the Sep-tember issue of the September The de Sales newsletter. Thank you to all brother knights who have already sent in payments and ticket stub booklets to this point! It’s im-portant that each brother in our Council purchase or sell at least one booklet of eight tickets. Proceeds from the C.O.A.L. program fund the PA State Scholarship from which council scholarships are awarded each year. By buying or selling the eight tickets at $1.00 each, you are enable the son or daughter of a brother knight from our Council to be eligible for the Pennsylvania K of C state scholarship. We all know that the children of our members need all the help they can get to cover their increasing college costs. Our council also receives a percentage of the proceeds from these C.O.A.L. tickets, which is in turn used to fund our many charitable initiatives.
Please try to sell as many books as you can before Fri-day, 12 October, since our Council receives a bonus per-centage on C.O.A.L. ticket funds returned to the State K of C by that date. We will, however, continue to sell books until the final deadline of Saturday, 1 December. The prize drawing will occur on Saturday, 8 December,
at 8p.
Please help! If you believe you can sell more books, please contact me via phone (724.388.0607) or email ([email protected]). Payments can be made with cash or check (made out to “K of C Council #1481). You can bring your ticket stubs and payment to any Council meeting or mail them to:

CHINE
On Tuesday, 14 August, Bishop Edward Malesic blessed the 14th ultrasound machine that has been purchased by the Knights of Columbus in the PA Western Section (which includes the Greensburg and Pittsburgh Dioceses) since 2011. The ultrasound machine is a four-dimensional machine that will be housed in the My Choice Medical Clinic in Greens-burg, PA. This pro-life pregnancy center is the only one in Westmoreland County. As Knights of Colum-bus, and therefore practicing Catholics, we continue to support these pregnancy centers with our fundrais-ing and our prayers!

Knights in the News
By decree of Pope Leo XIII in 1883, the month of October is to be dedicated to the recitation of the Most Holy Rosary before Mass or during the exposition of the Blessed Sacrament.
As Brother Knights, we are to carry our rosaries with us at all times and pray the devotion every day, so I thought this would be a great opportunity to remind each of us how to pray the Most Holy Rosary of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the four groups of mysteries, and each of their five decades.
1. Genuflection & Apostle’s Creed, 2. Our Father…, 3. Three Hail Marys for the gifts of Faith, Hope, & Charity, 4. Glory Be… & Fatima Prayer, 5. Annunciation of the First Mystery & Our Fa-ther…, 6. Ten Hail Marys while meditating on the Mystery, 7. Glory Be… & Fatima Prayer, 8. Re-peat steps 5-7 for the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, & 5th Mysteries, 9. Hail, Holy Queen…, Pray for us O Holy Mother of God… Breviary Prayer, Genuflection.
