Greetings from the East. Hope you had a Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays and a safe New Year. Due to not knowing who would be in the Officers line last November, I sent out a summons. This was required by the Grand Master as a condition of any lodge that did not have its regular election. This also gave the Lodge a chance to breathe and see if anyone would assist it in becoming an officer. The November meeting was well attended. Many also emailed/regular mail/called me correctly to notify why they would not be able to attend. I thank all of you for your actions. The meeting produced several good results. Worshipful Bill Malmstrom PM volunteered to be Senior Warden for 2012 and 2013. Richard Jenkins volunteered to be Junior Warden. Others had good ideas to explore. One was for changing our meeting night. Various nights were discussed with the pros and cons of each. This will be brought up further in a stated meeting if interest is there. Many of the younger Masons desired to learn lessons from the more senior Brothers as a mentoring program. The projects where each new brother will be the lead, for something he wishes to engage for the Lodge, will continue. Brothers, I thank all of you and Worshipful Randy Downy PM for making this meeting a good basis for the 2013 Masonic Year. December was dark after the Election Stated Meeting. Many had the usual holidays, work, and family obligations. I hope all had a great time and are ready to go to work in January. We will have a Second degree for Brother Ryan as well as planning a first degree for the new applicant. The Projects from the New Brothers need to be firmed up. To our new Entered Apprentices, think of what you would like to do in the lodge. You will be in charge of this event. This includes planning and promotional activity so the other brothers will know what is happening. Let me know as soon as possible so we will not have a calendar conflict. At the January stated meeting we will elect members to the hall board. We will also need members to be part of the audit committee and other ongoing programs. If you have the time and would like to help the lodge and serve in these positions advise me or be at our stated meeting in January. The lodge also needs a Junior Steward. What a great way to take part, progress and learn the various offices that are part of our ritual. It is again, my brothers, time to be a bee in the industrious hive to advance our learning, cause, and Masonic Experience through actions. I look forward to working with all of our brothers to advance our knowledge of our craft. A Thank You to all that donated toys this year to the kids via the Menlo Park Fire Department. They were well received and will make a child’s Christmas better. See you at the January Stated Meeting. Greetings from the East.

Hope you had a Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays and a safe

New Year. Due to not knowing who would be in the Officers

line last November, I sent out a summons. This was required by the Grand

Master as a condition of any lodge that did not have its regular election. This

also gave the Lodge a chance to breathe and see if anyone would assist it in

becoming an officer. The November meeting was well attended. Many also

emailed/regular mail/called me correctly to notify why they would not be able to

attend. I thank all of you for your actions. The meeting produced several good results. Worshipful

Bill Malmstrom PM volunteered to be Senior Warden for 2012 and 2013. Richard Jenkins volunteered

to be Junior Warden. Others had good ideas to explore. One was for changing our meeting night.

Various nights were discussed with the pros and cons of each. This will be brought up further in a stated

meeting if interest is there. Many of the younger Masons desired to learn lessons from the more senior

Brothers as a mentoring program. The projects where each new brother will be the lead, for something he wishes to engage for the

Lodge, will continue. Brothers, I thank all of you and Worshipful Randy Downy PM for making this meeting a good basis for

the 2013 Masonic Year.

December was dark after the Election Stated Meeting. Many had the usual holidays, work, and family obligations. I hope all had a

great time and are ready to go to work in January. We will have a Second degree for Brother Ryan as well as planning a first

degree for the new applicant.

The Projects from the New Brothers need to be firmed up. To our new Entered Apprentices, think of what you would like to do in

the lodge. You will be in charge of this event. This includes planning and promotional activity so the other brothers will know what

is happening. Let me know as soon as possible so we will not have a calendar conflict.

At the January stated meeting we will elect members to the hall board. We will also need members to be part of the audit

committee and other ongoing programs. If you have the time and would like to help the lodge and serve in these positions advise

me or be at our stated meeting in January. The lodge also needs a Junior Steward. What a great way to take part, progress and

learn the various offices that are part of our ritual.

It is again, my brothers, time to be a bee in the industrious hive to advance our learning, cause, and Masonic Experience through

actions. I look forward to working with all of our brothers to advance our knowledge of our craft.

A Thank You to all that donated toys this year to the kids via the Menlo Park Fire Department. They were well received and will

make a child’s Christmas better.

See you at the January Stated Meeting.

Sincerely,

From The West

Never say Never. Been there, done that, won’t do it again. Well what can I say, I’m back. Last time I

was elected Master. This time I was elected Senior Warden. Next time maybe Junior Warden. I’ve

gone through the chairs maybe this is the way to come out of the chairs. Hopefully this year will give

our newer members a chance to get their ritual tuned to get in the line and really make Three Great

Lights the Lodge it has the potential to be. We do more degrees than the average lodge and have more

new members than most. When I got raised I would come to lodge and watch the officers do ritual and

within six months of sitting on the side lines I wanted to be a part of it. Luckily, Great Lights 818 had

a Sideliners Degree Team, and I asked if I could be part of it. I was welcomed with open arms and in

no time I was doing ritual. When an opening came up in the line due to a brother dropping out I was ap-

pointed Marshal to finish the year and the fallowing year I began my travels to the East by being ap-

pointed Junior Steward. As I sat in the Junior Steward’s chair I watched and listened to the other

officers as they did their ritual, really concentrating on the next chair I would be progressing to and

then the next one. I was told to study two chairs ahead of where I was just in case I had to jump.

That was good advice because my next move was to Junior Deacon. It is amazing how much you learn

by just watching and listening to what the officers say and do. As you move up the line as Stewards

and Deacons there is nothing more important than rod work. It can make the floor work look so per-

fect especially when it is done in pairs and both, either Deacons or Stewards, move as one. I look for-

ward to serving the lodge this next year and will do all I can to help those that are wanting to get in

the line and progress through the chairs and become Master. It is a great feeling to be called Wor-

shipful.

Senior Warden Elect

From The South

Greetings Brothers. I wanted to take this time to introduce myself. This will be my first time writing for the Trestle Board.

And, I must say, it is an honor to have the opportunity to do so. After really delving into research pertaining to the purposes

of the Trestle Board, I reached a definitive image, within my own perception, of its purposes. The Trestle Board projects the

lodge’s image to its members and, perhaps more importantly, to non-members. It is a projection of who we are as an institu-

tion. In a world where light can be dimmed by tragic events or the unfortunate circumstances, as seen in recent happenings in

Connecticut, this is our opportunity to provide a favorable ray of hope and support for local and broader communities. This

ability to make a difference here, with our Lodge, is why I am so happy to be a part. I joined the lodge in 2003, if my memory

serves me well. Being tied to a career that demanded all of my time, it became very difficult to attend Lodge, not to mention

participate. Although apart for almost 10 years, I remained connected through the highlights given in the Trestle Board. For

that I was thankful, because I knew that one day the opportunity would come that would allow me to be a part once again.

Well, that day came and it was shortly after a career change. I received a summons to attend the Lodge for a mandatory

meeting. So, I did. I knew it was the right time for me to reconnect. However, knowing the Lodge was at a critical point, this

added an additional layer of importance to the decision process. That night, although not completely knowing the labors of my

decision, I opted to assume the Leadership duties of Junior Warden in the upcoming year. I know it will not be an easy task.

However, I am overwhelmed by all the support and guidance from the current and past leadership. I am excited to be re-

ceived back to the Lodge as a brother and it is my goal and ambitions to give back as much, if not more than, what has been

offered to me. I offer my most sincere gratitude and I am very thankful for my Brothers in the Lodge and the trust they

have placed in me.
