Letters To The Editor Inherited it, took us on a tour, which was very interesting. On Saturday at the nearby town of Scottsdale, called the WestV most western town, they had a wonderful western parade which is the longest horse drawn parade with beautiful horses and bands and covered wagons. Jack Bailey's "Queen for a Day" rode on one float and T. Coffin of "26 Men" fame rode at the head of the 26 men, who were judged the best riding group. There was a 3-day celebration and two rodeos, a bar- becue and stjeet dancing. One day we drove back to Tuc- son, past the beautiful superstition mountain range to the town of Florence. There is a large prison and a separate prison farm here. We went on past Tucson, where we saw snow In the high moun- tains down to the border town of Nogales. Here we parked and walked across the border in- to Old Mexico. We walked for blocks through open door shops. It was cool that daj' and the clerks had coats and scarves on. They would beg you to buy. They work on a commission and they start high on their goods as they always come down at least half. We spent a few hours here and enjoyed it. No trouble at the border as we walked across and they didn't even look at what we bought. Just asked If w e were born In the U.S. As we left Nogales we stopped at an old Spanish Mission, a beautiful old ruins of an old Spanish church settlement founded by Father Kino who worked here in the 1800's with the Indians. This is a national mon- ument and operated by the Ran- gers of the U. S. Government. We also stopped at an old ranch mu- seum. former home of Pete Kit- chen, Indian fighter. Coming home we passed by a marker on the road dedicated to Tom Mix, the old cowboy movie star. On top of this marker is a picture of his black horse. On this spot Tom Mix passed away. One day the Gettys accompanied us up into the mining country near Superior where there are large copper mines and other min- erals. At one place they had just this year opened a pit of pearlite ore. a shale rock easily broken that has glass in it. It is a form of mica and is used in making filters for medicines such as pen- icillin, also for insulation and roof- ing. There were many people there in this pit. looking through this soft substance for a round, black rock called Apache Tears, They make jewelry out of it here. It is beautiful and we dug out 13 pounds of these black rocks. It was thrilling to be sort of a miner for a little while. Saturday afternoon we attended the horse races at the beautiful Turf Paradise race track miles out the Black Canyon Highway. There were thousands of people there to see the beautiful horses. Thousands of dollars are bet on a single race there. It is a nice track and the landscaping is beautiful. We are enjoying visits with Mar- tha and Glenn Getty and like this climate. Weather is cooler right now as if finally rained here Sun- day night, so temperature is about 60 degrees, and snow is on the mountains to the north of us about 50 miles away. There was two feet of snow at Flagstaff. We will leave hefe Sunday for a short visit in California. Sincerely, Ruth Pratt CARD OF THANKS We wish to express our heartfelt thanks and deep appreciation to our relatives, friends and neigh- bors for the deeds of kindness and expressions of sympathy shown to us during our bereavement, the sudden loss of our beloved hus- band, father and grandfather, Ar- thur E. Trofast. We also wish to thank Pastor Richard A. Swed- berg for his comforting words, the pallbearers, Mr. and Mrs. George Bettes for their kind services and all of those who sent floral tributes and cards of sympathy. Mrs. Arthur E. Trofast and family. 2-25p Thank you so much for sending us the Sentinel-Leader. It keeps us in touch with what goes on at home, while we are gone. We are soon leaving here to go to Culifor- jiiu, only 400 miles from here. We will visit friends for a week (fi' so then leave for home. We are still going places and seeing new tilings around through Arizona. We visited Indian ruins in the city of Phoenix und also in Mesa. These are walls of houses and villages unearthed by archae- ologists and were inhabited hun- dreds of years ago by Indians of an unknown race. They are find- ing dishes, grinding stones, jewels, and many interesting things to tell of Ihh life and habits of these Indians. Al Phoenix there is an old-time grocery store with thousands of antique items of the old grocery store era. A famous chain groc- ery store in this section has this store. Admission is free and it was interesting to see, from the cracker barrel to the old-time soda fountain that served sarsaparllla Two ladies dressed in 1890 costume served hot apple pie, cracker bar- rel cheese and ice cream and also played an organ. We also visited the very beauti- ful Sky Harbor airport at-Phoenix the 4th largest in the nation There is a bank, a motel and large restaurant here for the convenience of passengers. We drove up the Apache trail from Apache Junction about five miles from lis und visited an old gold mine called the Goldfield Mine, connected with the early his- tory of Arizona. Driving on up the trail we reached the mountain road to Canyon Lake. It was a winding road with sharp curves 20 miles an hour was our best speed. The mountains were rug- ged and beautiful here, what 1 could see. 1 w a s so afraid that 1 didn't enjoy the scenery. W< finally reached a cliff where we could see the Canyon Luke, high in the mountains. 1 was afraid to go on as others said the road was worse from there on. We have now seen' three of the four lakes on the Apache Trail. There Lake Apache yet to see, but 1 know now 1 will never go up that road again lo see it. 1 do not like mountain driving. Not too fur from us Is a mystery castle built many years ago by a man who built it all by himself made of field stone way out on the desert. If seems he had tuber culosis so he hud to be out here The castle has 20 rooms and 13 fire places, but no plumbing. This castle was written about in Life magazine and the daughter who * MORE AND MORE mothers are appreciating the peace of mind that comes from giving their children "phone home money" whenever they go out. One mother puts it this way: "Phone home money is as important for children as a handkerchief. Often they want to go somewhere straight from school. * MORE AND MORE mothers are appreciating the peace of mind that comes from giving their children "phone home money" whenever they go out. One mother puts it this way: "Phone home money is as important for children as a handkerchief. Often they want to go somewhere straight from school. It's such a comfort to me to know that they'll phone rae first And from the children's point of view, help is now always as near as a public call booth."

TALKING OF bedroom extensions, we've just heard of t man who sprained his thumb when he stumbled, on hU way downstairs to answer a nighttime phone call. Shortly

after, he had a bedside extension installed. But guess what happened the very next time he had a late phone call —he was all the way downstairs and groping for switches and muttering to himself before he realized that there

was now no need to stir from bed!
