08:00 REGISTRATION, BREAKFAST AND COFFEE/TEA08:30 Welcome and introduction09:00 Various sessions organised giving practical demonstrations and advice on the following:

1) Falls from Height. Work at height is the biggest single cause of fatal and serious injury in the construction industry, particularly on smaller projects. Over 60% of deaths involve falls from ladders, scaffolds, working platforms, roof edges and through fragile roofs or rooflights.

2) Dust. Construction dust is not just a nuisance; it can seriously damage your health and some types can eventually even kill. Regularly breathing these dusts over a long time can therefore cause life-changing lung diseases.

3) Workplace transport. Each year within the construction industry, approximately ten people die as a result of being struck by vehicles on site. In addition, there are hundreds of preventable accidents and injuries. Accidents occur from groundworks to finishing works and managers, workers, visitors to sites and members of the public can all be at risk. Inadequate planning and control is the root cause of many construction vehicle accidents.

4) Asbestos. Asbestos-related diseases kill more people than any other single work-related cause. All types of asbestos can be dangerous if disturbed. The danger arises when asbestos fibres become airborne. They form a very fine dust. Breathing asbestos dust can cause serious damage to the lungs and cause cancer.

5) Excavations. Every year people are killed or seriously injured by collapses and falling materials while working in excavations. They are at risk from; Excavations collapsing and burying or injuring people working in them, material falling from the sides into any excavation; and people or plant falling into excavations.

6) CDM Consultation. CDM 2007 - Review of these regulations and consultation document.
