Online Learning: Frequently Asked Questions

What are the benefits of online learning? The biggest benefit of online learning is that you can attend classes from your own home or anywhere that you have computer access. This is especially convenient when raising a family, working full-time or experiencing particular life circumstances that make commuting to campus difficult or impossible. At UofL you are taught by the same world-class faculty as our on-campus students. You read the same books, do many of the same assignments and earn the same degrees. The biggest difference is that you are able to do it in a way best fits your lifestyle.

Will my diploma say I earned my degree online? No. Your degree is exactly the same as someone who earned a degree while attending classes in a classroom on-campus.

I work full-time. Are there other students learning online like me?We have a very diverse student body in our online degree program community. Many of our students work full-time, are stay-at-home parents or are returning to the classroom after a long hiatus. We can almost guarantee that you will have classmates with similar life experiences as you.

How much is tuition?2010-2011 undergraduate courses are $456.30 per credit hour; graduate courses are $660.40.

Can I receive credit toward my degree for leadership, professional development, technical, orcertificate program courses that I’ve taken? The online RN-BSN program contains 25 credits that are obtained by completing a portfolio. These credits, given for life experience, save students over $10,000. The online BS in Workforce Leadership offers a possibility of up to 48 credits hours for life experience. This is a potentia savings of over $21,000.

How does the undergraduate transfer process work?Ideally, students interested in an undergraduate program will transfer to UofL with a completed associate’s degree from a regionally accredited institution to maximize credit transfer. Students who have been enrolled at a KCTCS school and have fulfilled all of their general education requirements can have all of those credits transferred in block, and can then begin immediately with the upper level coursework. Students who have not completed an associate’s degree but have completed most or all general education requirements may be able to complete remaining courses at UofL. Every situation is different. If you have questions about how your credit will transfer, contact an online learning consultant.

How do I apply?Undergraduate applicants apply online at http://louisville.edu/admissions/apply. Graduate applicants apply at http://graduate.louisville.edu/apply.

What degree programs are offered online?

1. UofL’s online bachelor’s degree programs are designed so that you complete the first two years of coursework through the Kentucky Community and Technical College System (KCTCS) with the Kentucky Virtual Campus (KYVC). However, you may transfer credit to UofL from any regionally accredited institution. You will submit transcripts from all undergraduate institutions you attended as part of the admissions process. Upon review, some or all credit may be applied to your degree program.2. The online RN-BSN program contains 25 credits that are obtained by completing a portfolio.
