A:Thereisnolawdictatingthenumberofvehiclesapersoncanown.
Q: Can they be stored on my property?
A:VehiclesparkedonprivatepropertymusthavetheconsentoftheownerandmustbeparkedonasurfaceofasphaltorPortlandcementconcretewithadequatedrainage.Vehiclesmustbeinrunningcondition.
Q: How many cars are allowed to be parked on the street?
A:Vehiclesmaynotbeparkedorleftstandingonthestreetformorethanaconsecutiveperiodof72hours.Ifleftbeyondaconsecutiveperiodof72hours,thepolicedepartmentmayciteand/orremovethevehicle.

Q: Why does the City of Ventura have rules about vehicles?
A:TheCity’sMunicipal,Zoning,andBuildingcodesensurethesafetyofourcommunity.NeighborhoodPreservationassistsourcommunitywiththeregulationsassetforthbytheVenturaCityCouncil.
Inoperable vehicles stored within view from the street or other public or private property may not be
stored longer than five days.

Q: Is it legal to work on my car while it is on the street?
A:Youcannotperformmaintenanceorrepairsuponavehicleparkeduponastreetexcepttemporaryrepairsnecessitatedbyanemergency.
Only temporary repairs are permitted while your vehicle is parked on the street.
Q: Why is my car considered abandoned if it is on my own property?
A:Youcannotstoreavehiclewhichisinanabandoned,wrecked,dismantledorinoperativeconditionuponanyprivatepropertyorpublicpropertyforaperiodinexcessoffivedaysunlessthevehicleiscompletelyenclosedwithinabuildingwhereitisnotvisiblefromthestreetorotherpublicorprivateproperty.
Anexemptionexistsifyouarealicenseddismantler,licensedvehicledealerorajunkyard.
Q: Is it okay for my neighbor to rent out their trailer and let someone live in it on their driveway?
A: Itisunlawfulforanypersontoparkamotorvehicleoratransportablelivingfacilityonanystreet,highway,orpublicorprivatepropertyforpurposesofsleepingin,livingorresiding.
However,aresidentwithinthecitymaypermitavisitortoliveorsleepinavehicleequippedfortransportablelivingorsleepingonatemporarybasisaslongas(1)itisnomorethan7daysina90-dayperiod;(2)thereisstillparkingroomonsite;(3)itdoesn’tcreateasafetyhazardand(4)thevehicleand/orit’soccupantsdonotcauseapublicnuisance.
Vehicles may not be parked or left standing on the street for more than a consecutive
period of 72 hours.
Q: What if I don’t comply with the vehicle regulations and requirements?
