FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS OF PROJECTS

I. AFFILIATION TO AN ORGANIZATION

1. Is it necessary for the project to be affiliated to some organization?

It is compulsory that the project should be associated with some organization. The project should be either done in an organization or done for an organization.

It is compulsory that the guide from the organization in which the project is done or for whom the project is done, should sign in the certificate that the project is done by the student in the organization.

2. Can the project be an independent research?

Even if the project is an independent research for example, studying the stock market of India, the project should be carried out for some stock exchange agency or financial investment analysis company. A representative from that organization should sign in the project vouching for the fact that the project was carried out for them.

3. Will the University help in selecting the organization?

The organization in which the project is to be done is to be chosen by the student and university cannot help in this process.

4. Will University give a letter that the student is doing MBA in SMU, to the organization where the project work is done?

All the organizations are aware of the fact that a student is supposed to do a project work as a part of the MBA course curriculum and the student can show the student ID card of SMU, to the organization as evidence for the project work being done as a part of the MBA course curriculum.

If needed, yes, we will give you letter on request.

II. GUIDE:

1. What are the eligibility criteria for a guide?

Organization Guide: Guide from the organization should have minimum 5 years of corporate experience.

Academic Guide:

Guide should be a post graduate

Guide should have minimum 5 years academic experience / corporate experience. It is not compulsory but it is desired that the guide has specialized or working in the area of the project chosen.

Academic guide should sign the project report vouching that the project is done by the student

2. Will the university help in selecting the guide?

The guide to provide guidance for the project is to be chosen by the student and university cannot help in this process.

3. Is it necessary that the guide should be a post graduate in the area of specialization chosen for the project?

It is not compulsory but it is desired that the guide has specialized or working in the area of the project chosen.

4. Is it possible to do the project with the organization guide alone?

It is compulsory that a representative from the organization, where the project work is done should sign the project work that the project is done in the organization or for the organization. This Organization guide should have 5 years of work experience.

It is insisted that the student should have an academic guide also, as the organization guide will not have time to guide the student in the course of the project like data analysis, interpretation etc. If the organization guide of the student is knowledgeable and have time to guide the student in the course of the project, the organization guide himself can act as the academic guide for the student provided he/she qualifies the criteria of having 5 years work experience and being a post graduate.

Arrive at a broad outline of the Project in the chosen area of the specialization

Select the Organization

Select the guide (The eligibility criteria for the guide is given in the synopsis guidelines)

Prepare the Project synopsis

2. Is there any standard template for project synopsis?

3. How to submit the project synopsis?

The soft copy of the project synopsis should be mailed to projectsmbaflexi@smudde.edu.in with the following details in the mail.

4. Is it necessary to send the hard copy of the project synopsis?

We do not accept hard copy of the project synopsis. The student has to send only the soft copy of the project synopsis to projectsmbaflexi@smudde.edu.in e mail id.

IV. PROJECT:

1. Where to find the project guidelines document and project synopsis template?

2. What is the duration of the project?

The project starts in 3rd semester and the student has to submit the project synopsis in the 3rd semester within the timeline specified by the university for the same.

The Viva voce exam for the project will be conducted in fourth semester in the date specified by the controller of examinations office.

3. Can the project be a team work?

The project cannot be a team work. Each student has to do a project individually and the project is for individual evaluation.
