About freshwater biomesThe term “freshwater” refers to water that has a low

salt concentration. The animals and plants living in a freshwater biome would not be able to live in an environment with high salt concentration, such as the ocean, because they have adjusted to the low salt concentration in their area.

The following are three types of freshwater areas: lakes and ponds, rivers and streams, and lastly, wetlands.

Animals and plant lifeThe plants found in freshwater biomes include many

species of algae, pond lilies, aquatic green plants, and rooted and floating plants.

Animals found in freshwater biomes include snails, clams, insects (dragon flies, beetles, and midges), crustaceans, fishes, amphibians, turtles, snakes, catfish, carp, shellfish, badgers, otters, minks, alligators, newts, frogs, and ducks.

Freshwater biomes and all the species they contain are being threatened by pollution, which comes from just a few of the following: fast food packaging, farm runoff, and industrial charges. Due to the rise in pollution freshwater drinking water is losing in popularity to bottled water.
