Dear families,

It has been wonderful to have our years P-2 students back onsite learning for the past two weeks. Overall, students have been settled, enthusiastic and pleased to be back at school. I would like to thank our years 3-6 students who have patiently continued their remote and flexible learning and we very excited to have all students across years Prep-6 back onsite from next Tuesday 9th June. A reminder to families that Monday the 8th June is a public holiday and therefore the school is closed on this day to staff and students.

With the return to onsite learning for all students on the 9th June, I would like to remind families of new ‘changes’ to how we operate throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. The following information has been published to families on two previous occasions but is well worth re-familiarising ourselves with.

All students commence onsite learning from Tuesday the 9th June and are expected to attend school. The school will not be providing further remote learning programs.

Entry to the school for all students, at the start of the day, is through the front main entrance only and hand sanitiser is provided to all students to use. Only staff, students and official school visitors are permitted in the school buildings and grounds.

There are distance markers placed at the front of the school for students to adhere to social distancing guidelines. We kindly ask parents to ensure drop offs and good-byes are prompt and do not cause congestion at the front door/path. Staff are monitoring social distancing during recess/lunch, before and after school as well as during class time.

Classroom teachers are dismissing their classes from the gates nearest their classrooms at the end of the school day. Gates are locked until dismissal time and we ask all parents to please remain outside the school-grounds and make meeting point arrangements with their child/ren that reflect social distancing guidelines.

If children become unwell during the school day they are isolated in the first aid room and must be picked up promptly. We remind all families to keep any unwell child at home until they have fully recovered.

All parent enquiries are to be made via telephone call to the general office or email to the relevant staff. Office staff will be available for contactless drop offs of lunch/snack, jumpers etc. should this be needed. Preferred method of parent/teacher meetings are via telephone, email or scheduled Webex video conferences.

From the 9th of June onwards, recess and lunch times will be staggered for P/1s (10.30-11.00am & 1.00-1.30pm) and 2-6s (11.00-11.30am & 1.30-2.00pm). Our dismissal time of 3.00pm will remain the same.

After school care will continue to be provided by Lonsdale House Childcare for all schools within the Borough of Queenscliffe and will continue to be based at Queenscliff Primary School. Parents/carers of after school care participants are not permitted in the buildings or grounds of the school and students are walked by an after school care staff member to the main entrance for collection. All afterschool care participants follow Lonsdale House and Queenscliff Primary School’s COVID-19 procedures.

We thank all of our students, staff and families for your co-operation and patience at this time.

In staffing news, we would like to advise families that Miss Baird has had to finish up her onsite duties effective immediately due to the nature of her pregnancy. Whilst Anna and her twins are all safe and well at the moment, doctor’s advice has been for an earlier delivery date than expected, alongside closer medical monitoring. Anna will be in next Tuesday 9th June to spend time with her class and say her good-byes. We look forward to her return to QPS, which at

this stage, is scheduled for the beginning of 2022. From term 3 onwards, Noelle Roob will be co-ordinating the garden program and Miss Green will resume the kitchen program both with guidance, leadership and assistance from Mrs Fitzgerald.

We are thrilled to welcome Mr Harry Thompson as our new teacher for 2-4B and 2-6 science. Harry comes with teaching experience in both Australia and the United Kingdom and we ask everyone to make him feel welcome. Mrs Fitzgerald will continue to team teach in 2-4B, however, Mr Thompson will be the main full-time classroom teacher. Harry will be outside the front of the school on Monday and Tuesday next week for parents of years 2-4 students to meet him.

Have a wonderful long weekend folks,

Richard Buckingham
