From Books To Films!

IntroductionHave you ever wondered how a book is made into a movie? Did you ponder if a movie you are watching

was first a book? In English class, do you always ask your teacher if you will be watching the movie of what you have just read?

Have you ever read a book that you thought should be made into a movie? Are you ever let down because a movie did not include all of the events that happened

in the book?

Can you think of the number one reason why watching a movie of a book you just read helps you to understand

the story better?

TaskAs you navigate through the following websites, I would like you to complete two assignments based on books that are made into films. • The first assignment is to read a book that

has been turned into a movie and complete a review.

• The second assignment is designing your own movie based on your favorite book.

You will have two projects that must be handed in either before or on the deadline.

Process Assignment One:• Read a book that has been turned into a film• Watch the film that was inspired by the book• Write a review comparing them

• Base your review on the following criteria: 1. Characters : Does the movie portray the characters

accurately based on the book? Are all the characters included in the movie?

2. Plot: Does the movie contain the same plot as the book? How is it the same, and how is it different?

3. Conflict: Are the same conflicts present in the movie that you read in the book? Are there are new conflicts or conflicts left out?

4. Opinion: Your opinion counts!! Include your thoughts on whether you like the book or the movie more.

Remember to include the following in your review:• Include the name of the book, the author, the film, and the director • Give a plot summary• Give a rating out of 1-5 stars, one being the worst and five being the best • Must be at least three pages long, double spaced and always cite your

• Create your own “film” based on a book you have read

• You can either remake a film to your choosing or create one that hasn’t been made yet

• Have fun with this assignment and get creative!

• Base your “film” on the following criteria:

• 1) Make a cast. You may use www.imdb.com and http://www.dreamagic.com/roger/teencritic.html to find actors and actresses

• 2) Write out the plot of the story. Include changes you would make and why you would make them

• 3) Include a soundtrack with at least five songs and why you chose them

• 4) Create a visual element such as a poster, trailer, character picture, etc.

*You must include all elements or it will not be accepted

Evaluation

• You will be evaluated on completion of the assignments, the quality of work

done, citing of sources, no grammar and spelling mistakes, proper use of time in class, and overall presentation to the class.

• The review is out of 100 points, the second assignment is out of 50, and the presentation is worth 50. Total of 200pts.
