Advent Prayer

O God, As light comes from this candle,

May the blessing of Jesus Christ come to us, Warming our hearts and brightening our way.

Principal’s Message

As we enter the month of December, we begin to rekindle the traditions and cus-toms of our faith, especially those centered around Advent; the season of joyful preparation. Friends and family alike are busily preparing for special visitors to our homes, schools and church. Likewise, we also prepare spiritually for the coming of the greatest of visitors, the birth of our savior, Jesus.

Advent is a time to also reflect on and give thanks for our many blessings. Dur-ing this time, we are reminded that that the most special blessing of all is the gift of love. Let us share this gift of love with our families, friends and all who we meet this Advent Season. Let us prepare our hearts through daily prayer to re-ceive Jesus on Christmas day.

We would like to thank each of you for your continued support, co-operation and commitment to Catholic Education. As the new year approaches, we look for-ward to a continued partnership in the year ahead and extend our faith filled blessings to every family for a holy and peaceful Christmas!

A. Lang

His appearing will be brought about at the right time by God, the blessed and only Ruler,

the King of kings and the Lord of lords.

DECEMBER VIRTUE - HOPE

This month we will celebrate the Virtue of Hope.

We believe that God comes to us as a real hu-man who can show us the way of life. We understand that both the world and its peo-ple are from God and so are essentially good. Furthermore, God has given us this Advent season year after year in order to focus our minds and our hearts on the good all around us. Year after year, we are reminded that God chose to send His Son to us because we are worth it. God knows how great we can be when we all come together. People of Hope…

Keep up a positive attitude Can bounce back from tough situa-

tions Set and stick to their goals See the good in others even when

they make mistakes Work to include others Let others know that they are good

people

JANUARY VIRTUE ~ SELF-CONTROL

This month we will celebrate the Virtue of Self-control. God has given us the ability

to choose. We are able to control how we react to what happens around us. We may feel pressure from inside or from outside our-selves to react violently to a situation. We've all “lost it” at one time or another. We are never proud of those moments. As soon as they happen we make a promise that they will not happen again. Through prayer and concentration, we can get better at controlling our reactions. We can get better at show-ing self-control. Self-control helps us to resist the temptation to do something that we will regret. Self control helps us to resist the temptation to something that will harm our-selves or others. Self-control is one of the marks of a spiritually mature person. When we all use self-control, we can be sure that our school will be a safe, caring and inclusive place to live and to learn. A person with self-control… Is patient Knows how to wait his/her turn Can calm him/herself down and think before react-

ing to situations Knows how to avoid physical aggression (hitting,

kicking, pushing, fighting, etc.) Can think things through and do what is best for

everyone

Lost & Found

Our Lost & Found Box is over-flowing. During the next few weeks of December, please en-courage your children to peruse

the numerous articles of clothing that have accu-mulated in our bin. We will be making a dona-tion of unclaimed clothing on the last day of school.

Cold Weather and Illness In colder weather we often receive re-quests to allow students to remain in-doors when students have a cold, flu etc..

Please note that we cannot comply, as we have nei-ther the facilities nor the staff to supervise these stu-dents. Please use discretion in keeping your child at home to recover if they are ill. A child who is wheezing, coughing… is not in a state to learn and will infect others. If your child is well enough to at-tend school, they should be well enough to go out-side at recess.

Clothing in Cold Weather Children will go outside for recess and lunch hour, weather permitting. On ex-tremely cold days we limit the amount of time students spend outdoors. Dur-

ing morning announcements, we remind students to wear all winter clothes. Children should come to school with boots, winter coats, scarves, hats and mittens. As well, in order to keep their workplace clean, please ensure your child has a pair of “hard-soled indoor” shoes. Slippers are not recom-mended due to possibility of immediate evacua-tion . It will reduce the amount of dir t and mud brought indoors. This will also assist our custodial staff in keeping our school clean. Thanks for your continued cooperation.

Breakfast with Santa on Decem-ber 12th Santa is coming to CTK for a pancake breakfast. Santa will be taking pic-tures with students. Order forms and information have been sent home.

All proceeds will be helping families in our com-munity. Special thank you to Mrs. Michisor, Mrs. Colaco, Mrs. Marquez, Mrs. Scialdone, Mrs. Jarvis, Mrs. Zubac, Mr. & Mrs. Cordeiro, Mrs. Brunton, and the Grade 8 students for preparing and assisting with the breakfast.

Peel Regional Police Com-munity Partnership

Welcome Constable Car as our neighborhood community officer through the Region of Peel. He will be stopping by the school on a regu-

lar basis and visiting classrooms to speak with stu-dents about his role as Police Officers. We would also like to welcome Constable Moldrik, who will be sharing all the Grade 6 Peel Regional Police Education.

Eco-Source presentations will take place in January more information will follow. All students will be involved in the school waste reduction workshops. Thank you to Miss DaRosa for organizing this event.

Remembrance Day

Every year for the last 17 years, Mr. Masson, retired teacher from C.T.K. has transformed our school into a living Remembrance Day

tribute. With a personal collection of over a thousand authentic World War I and World War II artifacts on display, students were encouraged to see, touch and explore numerous items of the brave men and women who sacrificed their lives, so that we can enjoy the freedom we have today. World War I and II era music plays in the background as students try on uniforms and hold disabled weapons and briefly enter into the lives of the soldiers who took part in these wars. Mr. Masson and current Grade 5 teacher, Mr. Celeste also organized the Remembrance Day ceremony, which was celebrated in the school gym at 10 am on November 9th. The staff and community of C.T.K would like to thank Mr. Masson for all his hard work in setting up the fab-ulous Remembrance Day Exhibit and helping us to understand and appreciate the sacrifices of so many.

Hat and Mitten Tree We invite children and their families to decorate our tree with new mit-tens, scarves or hats. Donations will be divided between CTK families

and Vincent de Paul to help less fortunate men, women and children keep warm this win-ter. You will find our “Hat and Mitten Tree” in the hallway in front of the office.
