March 2011

Dear HGP Parents:

We think winter is almost over, but certainly things are getting warmer at HGP. March brings a

roaring schedule of activities.

Congratulations to National Merit Finalists Andrew Donchez, Brian Fulginiti, and Brian Shiue.

These young men have demonstrated achievement at the highest levels of national recognition.

Congratulations to their parents and teachers as well.

Teachers, Counselors and Administrators are developing next year‟s schedules, capably under the

direction of Mr. Jeffrey Danilak. Early returns indicate strong interest in some of our newer

electives, such as Irish History and Spiritan Seminar, with more than healthy encouragements for the

staples of science and math electives in the senior year. Developing individual schedules over the

next few months requires special care and handling and we thank Mr. Danilak for his skill and

patience in that regard.

HGP basketball is headed back to defend its title at the District I title game on Saturday the 5th at

Villanova. Our hockey team enters the weekend competition as the #2 seed in the Flyers Cup.

Our final Parent Communication & Education Series Session will be held on Tuesday, March 22,

2010, 7:30 PM, in the Dining Hall. The topic will be legal perspectives on teenage prom behavior.

Parent of juniors and seniors, please note: this is the last opportunity for you to fulfill the

HGP parental prom obligation: attendance at one of three offered sessions by at least one

parent. Such attendance is required if your son wants to attend the junior or senior prom.

Add in this Sunday‟s Welcoming Mass for the Class of 2015 and Forensics Pasta Dinner later that

day, the Mother Son Dance on March 12, and you have the right blend of community that is central

to our mission. All of us here at HGP deeply appreciate your sharing in our mission.

In One Heart and One Mind,

Michael A. O’Toole, Principal

your son(s) and encourage him/them to participate whenever possible. Information

about service projects is announced at lunch, at morning meetings, in the daily

floor of Cornwells Hall. If your son(s) has already completed service applicable to this

school year, please ensure that your son(s) has obtained a service verification form,

completed it, and remitted it to me. Verification forms are now available on the Service page of

the school’s website – www.holyghostprep.org - along with the Program’s Brochure and a

listing of approved volunteer agencies and internet links to some.

Please note: Seniors must complete their 20-hour service requirement by Monday, May

2nd. This is a graduation requirement. All other students should complete their service

Dear HGP Moms:

March Madness is upon us!!! It certainly is an exciting month as there are many opportunities for us to spend time together as a school community. You will be entertained by the award winning Forensics Team, as well as the cast of the school’s upcoming Spring Play Guys and Dolls. Please contact Deb Geoghan at 267-921-5309 or [email protected] for tickets and additional information.

I encourage everyone to please consider giving of your time and nominating either yourself or one of your friends to this effort. A flyer is attached providing more information.

SENIOR MOMS: Time is running out to send in your son’s 8x10 baby picture to Pat Chukala. To date, she has received 50 photos, out of 126 students. Additionally, we are preparing the Senior Slide Show, we have only received photos from 36 families. As I mentioned at the February Guild Meeting, it is up to you to provide photos of your son. You must have some memories of his first day at HGP or a special dance or prom? Possibly a past Mother/Son dance photo or maybe a sports photo? The deadline to receive these photos has been extended to Saturday, March 6th. We CANNOT ACCEPT photos after this time as the slideshow needs to be finalized and copies need to be burned for distribution. Moms, please don’t disappoint your sons by not having them view themselves among their friends’ photos the night of the dance. For anyone who has not been to the dance, the slideshow is shown on a large screen projector and is enjoyed by all who attend. A copy of the slide show will be available for $5.00 upon leaving the dance. Flyers are attached with additional information. Thank you in advance for your cooperation.

The Senior Moms will also be hosting our Alumni Celebration scheduled for Monday, April 4, 2011. If you know of an Alumni Mom, please be sure to remind her about this special

night. You will find a flyer providing the details and requesting a $10.00 donation. Your support of this event is very much appreciated and we thank you in advance for your donation of time and money.

Join us at our Soiree in Paris on Saturday, March 26, 2011. Shannon Corcoran and the Development Office are working very hard to turn the Fieldhouse into the City of Lights. There will be many great gift items to be auctioned off, as well as great food, exciting drinks and wonderful company. It is not too late to donate an item to this great fundraiser, or sponsor the evening. Please contact Shannon at 215-639-2102 ext 204 or [email protected] for details.

Lastly, I would like to thank Mr. Chris Steger, Director of Institutional Advancement at HGP, for taking time out of his busy schedule to join us at our February Guild meeting. Mr. Steger introduced himself to the Mothers’ Guild and provided some insight into his role, in addition to the goals he is working to accomplish in the months to come. He also opened up the floor to questions which was a welcome format. We look forward to Mr. Steger joining us again before the end of the year. Should you have any questions about the information referenced above, do not hesitate to contact me at 215-357-5647 or for a quicker response, [email protected].
