David Abel, Chairman.

On behalf of the Futura Group, I would like to welcome everybody once again to what is now our fourth consecutive Annual Charity Day. As always, we want you to enjoy the day’s festivities meeting old friends and new, with the priority to raise much needed funds for a very worthy cause. Whilst we have this year spearheaded the Futura Foundation initiative in order to raise funds for a variety of causes, the Birmingham

Children’s Hospital continues to remain the focus for our Annual Charity Event. Seeing how the money raised from past events is put to good use is both humbling and motivating to keep working towards kinder treatments and better facilities.

Thank you for any contribution you can make towards the charity this evening, no matter how big or small.

DAVID ABEL, Chairman

Every year Birmingham Children’s Hospital treats more than 9,000 children living with over 500 rare or undiagnosed conditions. These children often face huge challenges and obstacles growing up and the sense of isolation can be overwhelming. Relatively common, despite being called rare diseases, it is estimated that there are between 6,000 and 8,000 known rare conditions in the UK, with three quarters affecting children. Of these, 30% will sadly die before their fifth birthday.

Whilst treatment for rare diseases patients at Birmingham Children’s Hospital is excellent, its facilities do not match. Many families spend a long time navigating the healthcare system, seeing different specialists on different days in different departments. They often don’t always know exactly what their future holds, leaving them feeling frustrated, frightened and alone. To change this, Birmingham Children’s Hospital Charity has launched the Star Appeal, a £3.65 million appeal to create the UK’s first Rare Disease Centre that will improve the lives of thousands of families who have children bat-tling a rare or undiagnosed medical condition.

Six-year-old Caden is a bright and chatty little boy who is mad about dinosaurs. Caden was born with Urethral Atresia, a very rare congenital defect that caused a blockage to develop in his bladder and

resulted in irreparable damage to his kidneys before he was born. The condition means he has spent most of his life in and out of Birmingham Children’s Hospital. Caden and his mum, Clare, have to make an average of three trips a week to the hospital. “Caden’s condition is so rare that our local GP and hospital don’t really know much about it,” she said. “Spending so much time away from

home is really tough on our other two children but we know that Caden is being looked after by a fantastic team.” Caden has undergone multiple rounds of surgery including a 13-hour long bladder augmentation and a kidney transplant. It has been a tough start for Caden but away from hospital

he is just like any little boy. He is likely to need another kidney transplant when he reaches his teens and he will always require medication, but for now he’s just getting on with being a superhero with a

fondness for Pterodactyls (his favourite kind of dinosaur).

With your help, the charity’s new Star Appeal will help children like Caden, providing a single place within the hospital for all assessment, diagnosis, treatment, information, research and also valuable

peer-to-peer support for mums like Clare.

The Futura Foundation was formed in 2015 by the Abel family as a means of raising money to give back to worthy causes. As Futura gains momentum with our regular Golf & Christmas events we decided to create a foundation which would give us the flexibility to support as many worthy causes as we can.

The Futura Foundation intends to contribute its time & resources primarily to five main causes close to our hearts:

Community | Sportsmanship is in the blood of our employees, we would like to support as many local sports teams as pos-sible.Education | Supporting young talent by funding undergradu-ates & providing essential experience through our academy.Health | Our primary aim is to support local hospitals & chari-ties, particularly in child welfare.Environment | Working towards a recognised accreditation for environmental friendliness, Futura intend to significantly reduce their carbon footprint.Animal Welfare | All creatures great and small, the Futura Foundation is happy to support animal charities nationwide. &Your hosts for the Evening. . .

P E N N Y M A L L O R YJ A S O N D A W E

Penny Mallory is a presenter and motivational speaker who was a self-acknowledged troubled teen, finding herself homeless following a family breakdown. As an adult, she bounced back against the odds in spectacular style to become a champi-on rally driver & ‘adventurer’, training her mind and body every day. She is one of the UK’s most sought after female events and awards hosts. She has a wealth of experience hosting events all over the UK and abroad, with audiences ranging from just a few, to hundreds, and thousands.

We have the pleasure of having her with us this evening, to host the night & live auction with friend and colleague Jason Dawe.

Jason Dawe is an English motoring journalist and television presenter - made famous by his time on the BBC’s Top Gear.Dawe became a presenter on the Top Gear show on its first series, after it was launched in 2002. Today, he is a regular columnist in The Sunday Times motoring section, where he has written extensively about used cars. Together with Nick Rufford of The Sunday Times he has also made many video broadcasts of car reviews. He writes for many other motoring magazines and is a regular contributor to radio and TV shows as a motoring expert.

Over the last twelve months Futura Design has invested substantially into many areas of the business including: machinery, processes, & people.

The new ITP HA400 milling machines have been installed on a 10m track. This is ITP’s most substantial milling arm machines, with a 5-axis head resulting

in for efficient production & achieving a better surface quality.

Our CAD Engineering team has now doubled in size. Ready to support design engineering, not only with internal projects but are we are also happy to offer

outsourcing work packages for our large number of clients.

Project Management has as well developed further this year. In terms of investment, we have developed our current tracking software & gained

three new project management heads.

During the past year Futura Design has diversified into producing new properties completing several fease & function cubes within extremely high accuracy.

This has broadened our services to our clients from very early design proportion models, clay models, through to the ergonomic, aero testing, fease & cubes -

Thus enabling Futura to work throughout the products life cycle.

Page 14: Futura Annual Charity Event Brochure 2016

The Futura Recruitment division has rapidly expanded over the past twelve months which has seen the introduction of four new members of staff

in dedicated resource, admin, marketing and finance roles.

We have listened to our clients and contractors and decided to heavily reinvest into people and software to ensure we are always improving our service, which is backed

up by its third year of operating with an ISO 9001 standard of quality.

Following the increase in staff the division had outgrown their previous office and as of January 2016 moved into their own serviced office space at the

Blythe Valley Innovation Centre.

Daniel Abel – Recruitment Director had this to say about the move,

“The Innovation Centre was the ideal location for the move, given the excellent transport links and also being part of the Warwick University Science Park it

gives us strategic links with Universities and their upcoming talent pool”.

The care and treatment of children provided by the dedicated team of doctors and health professionals at Birmingham Childrens Hospital is amazing, however charitable donations allow us to do so much more. The Futura Foundation is raising funds for those projects and services which fall outside the remit of the NHS. As fundraisers we focus on providing additional funding for facilities, equipment, research and improving the experience for all

who use the hospital.

Could pay for seven activity packs and drawing materials to keep children entertained during long days spent in hospital.

Could pay for some bedding for those parents who need to stay in our parent accommodation facilities whilst their

child is being treated.

Could pay for a special dry suit which enables children to bathe whose conditions prevent them from getting into water.

Could pay for a ‘Glideaway’ bed for parents. Having a proper bed next to their child means mums or dads get a comfortable

sleep and are there when their little one needs them most.

Could pay for a special syringe pump which provides continuous pain relief in small doses. This helps some of our poorliest patients and avoids the need to wake them

in order to take medication.

Could cover the equiptment costs for a year-long research project looking into the causes and potential cures

for childhood illnesses.

Following the huge success of Futura’s Second Charity Event back in 2014, last year on Friday 12th June 2015 we decided to pull out all the stops for a truly

memorable event. This took place at the prestigious Forest of Arden Country Club in Meriden which has played host to a succession of international tournaments.

The day kicked off with our Golfers on an 8am shotgun start with the typical British weather yet again, but this didn’t stop Martin Earl taking the title from

previous winner Ron Llewellyn as Futura’s golf champion.

With the well known Jason Dawe hosting the night the evening was promised to be full of brilliant entertainment from start to finish. This consisted of a raffle and auction hosted by the renowned England Rugby player George Robson which raised a tremendous amount of money. Our photobooth captured the memories of the night and to top it off the evening, a fantastic live performance from The

Zippers which got everyone on their feet to put a great end to a fun filled night.

The night raised an outstanding £13,347.93 along everyone’s generous contributions to the well deserved Birmingham Children’s Hospital; this allowed us to create modern and child-friendly environments; purchasing state of the art medical equipment; and funding research into the prevention and treatment of

childhood illnesses.
