Mobile phones started off large. Then went to a smaller hand-held device.Recently, larger units have become popular again. It seems completely dependent on the user. Some want it as small as possible to fit into their pocket. Others want large screens and multi-functionality.The future is whatever size you want.

A new mobile generation has appeared approximately every 10th year.
1G was introduced in 1981. 2G system started to roll out in 1992.
3G system first appeared in 2001.4G systems fully compliant in 2012.

Next in line - 5G - 5th generation mobile networks. 5G is also referred to as beyond 2020 mobile communications technologies. 5G does not describe any particular specification in any official document. Possible new features - New data coding - Efficient support of machine-type devices - One unified global standard - Real wireless world with no more limitation with access and zone issues - User centric network concept instead of operator-initiated - World-wide wireless web (WWWW)

Frequencies Current
DJ
New mobile generations assigned new frequency bands and wider spectral bandwidth per frequency channel.(1G up to 30 kHz, 2G up to 200 kHz, 3G up to 20 MHz, and 4G up to 100 MHz).What about 5G?Skeptics argue that there is little room for larger channel bandwidths and new frequency bands suitable for land-mobile radio.

Storage Capacity
DJ
Entry-level smartphones come between 512MB and 2GB of internal storage, with high-end models ranging between 8GB (the iPhone 3G, the Palm Pre), 16GB (the Nokia N96), and 32GB (the iPhone 3GS). With the sizes of phones increasing and the alarming rate of new technology, storage capacity will increase by many GB, up to 500 GB in the near future. People want everything wherever they go; the mobile community.

Security
DJ
Has become very important in mobile computing as it relates to the security of personal information on smartphones. Attacks can come from many sources.SMS – MMS – GSM – Wi-fi – Bluetooth – Web browser – Operating System The first layer of security within a smartphone is the operating system. After the operating system security, there is a layer of security software.Anti-virus is also a good option.Security is constantly being upgraded as new threats occur almost daily.

![Page 27: Future of mobile technology](https://reader037.vdocument.in/reader037/viewer/2022102921/545b6971af795994188b6255/html5/thumbnails/27.jpg)
Location Based Advertising
There are two factors for Location Based Advertising
1) Push Factor
2) Pull Factor
• Target consumers with advertisements until they don’t want the ads
• Determine what ads and promotional material received
• Advertisers respect users choices
• Users want specific information• Locate with certain key words
![Page 28: Future of mobile technology](https://reader037.vdocument.in/reader037/viewer/2022102921/545b6971af795994188b6255/html5/thumbnails/28.jpg)
Location Based Advertising
How do the Companies Advertise these Services?
Using Push Factor: • Users must enter personal information (name, phone
number, other related information)• Company sends a text message for confirmation and
submission• Company then provides users with geographically based
offers
![Page 29: Future of mobile technology](https://reader037.vdocument.in/reader037/viewer/2022102921/545b6971af795994188b6255/html5/thumbnails/29.jpg)
Location Based Advertising
Example of a Push Factor:
A woman waiting for a bus may start getting notifications from local fast-food restaurants in the area. She may be very health oriented, which means she would have to submit information about herself to the company if she wants useful promotional material
![Page 30: Future of mobile technology](https://reader037.vdocument.in/reader037/viewer/2022102921/545b6971af795994188b6255/html5/thumbnails/30.jpg)
Location Based Advertising
How do the Companies Advertise these Services?
Using Pull Factor• Companies like go2 Media• Aggregate local listings from Yellow Page companies,
local directories, and group discount business
![Page 31: Future of mobile technology](https://reader037.vdocument.in/reader037/viewer/2022102921/545b6971af795994188b6255/html5/thumbnails/31.jpg)
Location Based Advertising
Example of a Pull factor:
A young male meeting her friends at a local Chinese restaurant and being able to locate the restaurant from her phone and viewing their menu.
![Page 32: Future of mobile technology](https://reader037.vdocument.in/reader037/viewer/2022102921/545b6971af795994188b6255/html5/thumbnails/32.jpg)

![Page 33: Future of mobile technology](https://reader037.vdocument.in/reader037/viewer/2022102921/545b6971af795994188b6255/html5/thumbnails/33.jpg)

ElectronicGrocery
“shoppers can simply whip out their smartphones and view a virtual supermarket complete with 1,200 meters of floor space and 1,000 items in stock. They can fill their virtual shopping baskets simply by scanning the item codes and checkout” (http://knowledge.ckgsb.edu.cn/2013/08/19/china/the-e-grocery-gold-rush/)• With an overcrowded market and population this represents an easy to
use space friendly approach• Social media allows for sharing of product reviews, shopping lists and
information aobut products BP

Fingerprint Scanning (payment and identity)
“Apple has its Passbook app, but given the fingerprint recognition capabilities in the new iPhone 5s and comments from Apple CEO Tim Cook … it sounds like Apple has a few tricks up its sleeve. Given the huge number of credit cards on
file … Apple could have a meaningful impact on mobile payment adoption.” (

Security pins and signatures are soon to be replaced by the individuality that is fingerprinting.
