The weather may not give many clues, but our schedules do: It’s Spring! Some folks are headed up north, some are on jaunts out of town because it’s the season of Graduations, Bas mitzvah’s, Bar mitzvah’s, Big Birthdays. Some are staying put but busy with end of the year celebrations: plays, competition finals, league championships. This is the time of year that UUFBR programs wind down. May will be the last meeting of Odyssey Group, and Mystics and Metaphysics. June 4th Flower Communion will be the last service with our choir.  And then Summer begins. A time to relax. Summer Sundays at UUFBR will be a time to enjoy the marvels of this community. Sunday School will continue - starting with 3 weeks of puppet making. Worship will still be a time to consider things of worth and to connect with each other, the preachers drawn from our midst. The choir may be out of town, but the music will be here,  Loni White and Carlos Marin will be our summer pianists. To whet your appetite here is the line up for June.   

            June 11 Ryan Stifter on Summer Spirituality            June 18 Father’s Day Fritz Aufdencamp in the pulpit            June 25 Louis Merlin on Sustainability  UUFBR is a Teaching Congregation.   One of the most significant achievements of this congregation is it’s ongoing commitment to the future of Unitarian Universalism, through the Teaching Congregation Program. Every candidate for the UU ministry is required to serve for a year as a minister in a congregation before meeting with the Ministerial Fellowship Committee. Not all congregations are able or willing to do this. UUFBR’s Endowment Committee has made it possible for us to support and help train minister’s of the future. In September we welcome our 9th Ministerial Intern, Rachael Hayes. 

Rachael Hayes is finishing up her Master of Divinity degree at Union Theological Seminary in New York City. She grew up in Kentucky and attended Bennington College in Bennington VT, where she got her bachelor's degree in drama. She moved to New York (after detours through Ann Arbor MI and Washington DC) to work in theater but eventually decided the real show was in church after all. She lived and farmed at Our Lady of the Rock Monastery in Shaw Island, WA for six months before starting seminary. Rachael is highly interested in worship and social justice, as well as farming, chanting, visiting national parks, and finding the best local food everywhere she goes. She is looking forward to getting to know UUFBR and South Florida!

Summer Sundays at UUFBR! This is for all of you!

Jack Bellick, Judy Keiser and Ellen Cormier will run a three Sunday Puppet Camp program June 11, 18 and 24th for the kids. We will have skill appropriate puppet projects from marionettes to little fingerlings to make! Older kids will be able to work with real wood and tools under supervisionWe need YOU this summer!

We have nine more Summer Sundays, July 2 to August 27. Each Sunday is led by an adult/teen who share their passion, talents, skills, adventures, with a helper. The kids will range from age 5ish to young teen, 7 to 10 each week. The little ones are in the Nursery.We need YOU this summer!

You can lead, or you can help the leader! Two people each week. Adults or teens.Here are some subjects that kids have loved or would love to do: Knot tying, soap making, face painting, belly dancing, musical instruments, social action project, health/safety/first aid/medical, Karaoke Fun, yoga, story telling, sewing, pottery, nature walks, water fun, National Children’s day, meditation, origami, dramatic play….and a shaving cream party is fun, too!More ideas: Insects, writing, acting, sign language, plants and growing things, jewelry making, arts, crafts, animals, experimenting with different musical instruments, world travel experiences, cooking, baking, candy making, horses, singing, recycling, solstice, star gazing! Whew! Please think about this and sign up.

One Hour: Each week with a LEADER and an ASSISTANT to help with the kids. That’s all. Sundays at 10:30. One hour just being YOU. One hour letting the kids get to know you and you getting to know the kids. You decide your plan, bring what you need- and have some fun.You can sign up in Osias, or email Ellen at DRE@uufbr.org. Dinner is 7:00 to 8:00 ~ Guided Discussion from 8:00-9:00.

Come and join a great evening of fun and getting to know each other! This month’s Dinner Discussion Group is being held at Harris’s home in Delray Beach. Please contact the host to let them know you plan to come and what your food dish will be. Email (Revhr@aol.com) to RSVP (required) and to get directions. The host tracks the number of attendees and the foods so that the evening has enough appetizers, main dishes, side dishes and desserts. Once you have committed your offering, please make sure it arrives on time!

Exciting news! Our Fellowship turned out 69 people to The Nehemiah Action Assembly, an increase of 15 from last year, and 9 more than our goal!  In total the Nehemiah Action Assembly turned out over 2,400 people - this is more than last year. Every year we inch closer to that vision of 3,000+ showing up for justice! And UUFBR is an important part of it. SO LET'S MOVE FORWARD! JUSTICE MINISTRY CELEBRATION - MAY 22 The PEACE year is now drawing to a close, and it's time to RSVP to the Justice Ministry Celebration!

At the Celebration, bond with members of other PEACE congregations and get the final low-down on all of the accomplishments. Also, hear the plans for moving forward. Enjoy a lovely dinner provided by the members of the Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church in West Palm! Attention! Kids ages 7 and up. Let’s get Creative!!!THE ARTIST IN ME CAMP IS BACK

This weekly Arts & Crafts camp will enhance your child’s imagination and creativity. Both you and your child will treasure the Arts & Crafts created by your child for years to come. * The Artist in Me Camp is offered on a weekly basis. * This is a Hands On Learning & Creating camp program. * With 8 campers Maximum and 4 Minimum - Reserve now, spots are limited. * We provide snacks & drinks. Campers are to bring their own favored lunches.

Camp Dates Week 1: June 26th - 30th Hours: 9 AM to 4PM Week 2: July 10th - 14th Hours: 9 AM to 4PM Week 3: July 24th - 28th Hours: 9 AM to 4PM Week 4: July/Aug 31st - 4th Hours: 9 AM to 4PM Cost for a week of camp is $180. All Art and Crafts materials included.

On Saturday, May 20th, Hospice of Palm Beach and Broward Counties will be celebrating its 20th Anniversary of the Hospice Sailing Regatta. This Regatta is one of Hospice's key fund raising events of the year. Long time member of UUFBR, Paul Chasse, has participated in this Regatta 18 of the 20 years with his Sailing Vessel, "Cheerios". In addition to participating in this event, Paul and Team Cheerios (sons Nick and Jody) are actively raising funds for Hospice. On Sundays May 7th and 14th, Paul will be available to provide information for donations to Hospice in Osias Hall after the Sunday Services. Hospice

Sundays Forum Discussion Group: Sundays at 9:00am, Living Room. This group meets every Sunday morning to discuss social and political issues. Robert Goard, coordinator. Potluck and Play: First Sunday of the month at 12:00 noon. A fun family oriented event. Bring a dish to share and head over to the park. Mystics and Metaphysics: Second Sunday of the month, 6:00pm at Harris’ House. This is an adult-centered group to explore individual spiritual quests. Pot-luck meal and discussion. Sign the Book Sunday: The 3rd Sunday of every month at 11:30am. Feel at home at UUFBR? Ready to become a voting member? Right after service, a member of the Board of Trustees will be on the chancel with the Membership Book. Come Forward. Sign the book! Odyssey Group: The 3rd Sunday of the month 30- somethings (give or take ten years). Meet at Harris’ House at 6:30pm. Bring something for the grill—salads, beverages and desserts provided. Drum Circle: 4th Sunday of the month at 12 noon in the Labyrinth or Osias if it rains. Bring an instrument of your choice.

Daytime Non-Violent Communication Circle: Meets the first Thursday of the month at 12:30pm in the Reverend’s office. Writers Circle: Meets weekly on Wednesdays from 12:30 to 3:30pm in the Smith Room. The group is open to all who seek supportive peers for thoughtful, constructive comments on their writings. Interested writers should contact Carolyn Brown.

Evenings Choir Rehearsal: Typically meets every Thursday at 7:30pm. New voices are always welcome to join. Dinner Discussion Group: On the 1st Friday of the month, join a great evening of fun and getting to know each other! See each month’s Unicorn for details.

Green Sanctuary: Meets the first Tuesday of the month at 7:00 pm in the Smith room. Join the group that is making our Fellowship more environmentally sustainable. Healing Justice Group: The 4th Tuesday of each month at 7:00pm in Osias Hall. All are welcome to become a part of this group as we work for justice in our communities. Book Group,The Charleston Syllabus, facilitated by The Reverend Harris Riordan. The 3rd Wednesday of every month at 7:00pm in the Living Room.Ukulele University: The third Thursday of the month at 5:30pm in the Sanctuary. This group meets to learn songs on the ukulele, have fun and keep active.

On-going P.E.A.C.E. People Engaged in Active Community Efforts. A congregation-based community organization charged with the mission of effectively fighting injustices in the communities of PB County. Family Promise: The faith community’s unique response to homeless families is a network of area congregations who open their doors to families in need. Families receive hospitality from congregations for a week, with each family sleeping in a private area at the facilities. The program is to bring temporary shelter, meals, and support to these families. Remembering Their Names. Each quarter during worship we remember the names of coalition forces killed in conflict abroad. Creating peace and justice in the world calls us to explore the power of peace in ourselves. In December 2004 we began a meditation practice. With this ritual we stretch our hearts so that together we might find a path to peace. Share the Plate. Half of each Sunday's offering is shared with an organization outside of UUFBR, which has been suggested by our Members/Friends. The rest helps to pay our bills.
