No. 8 Nebraska (4-0) vs. No. 7 Wisconsin (4-0)
The Cornhuskers battle the Badgers as they make their Big Ten conference debut. A
matchup of two top ten teams will have yet again major implications for the BCS title picture and league championship race. Both teams bring high powered offenses to the
table. Wisconsin won by an average score of 49-9 through its first four games while Nebraska scored nearly 43 points in each contest. Wisconsin’s defense hopes to
remain dominant, as it currently ranks in the top 10 in three of the four major categories.

This Week in History
Here’s a look back at some of those unforgettable moments in
college football history for the week of Sept. 26th - Oct. 2nd:
Sept. 26, 1992 - Ken Irvin of Memphis had a special day on
special teams. He became the first player in college football
history to block four punts in one game as the Tigers faced off
against Arkansas. Irvin’s great effort allowed the Tigers to
defeat Arkanas 22-6 in Memphis, Tenn.
Sept. 28, 1968 - College Football Hall of Fame inductee Bill
Enyart turned in the best day by a running back in Oregon State
history. He set school records with 50 rushes for 299 yards as
No. 18 Oregon State went on to beat Utah 24-21 in Salt Lake
City. Enyart helped the Beavers go 7-3 and finish second in the
Pac-8. He stacked up 1,304 yards on 293 carries and 17
touchdowns, which all ranked as single-season school records at
the time. Enyart still remains among the top seven all-time
rushers in every major category at Oregon State.
Sept. 30, 1944 - North Carolina State set an NCAA record by
amassing the fewest yards ever gained by a winning team. The
Wolfpack defeated Virginia 13-0 despite recording just 10 yards
of total offense in the game. N.C. State also became the only
team in college football history to win a game despite recording
zero first downs on the day.
Oct. 1, 1955 - College Football Hall of Fame coach Bud
Wilkinson and No. 5 Oklahoma topped No. 12 Pittsburgh
26-14 in Norman, Okla. The Sooners were led by their future
College Football Hall of Fame backfield of Tommy McDonald
and Clendon Thomas. The victory was the 21st in a row for
the Sooners, who would win the first of two straight national
championships that season, in a streak that would reach an
NCAA-record 47 games.
Oct. 2, 1982 - Navy jumped out an 21-0 lead and held on to
defeat Duke 27-21 in Durham, N.C. Blue Devils quarterback
Ben Bennett connected on 20 of 25 passes for 259 yards and
three scores in the fourth quarter. He nearly led Duke all the
way back, but fumbled on a quarterback keeper at the Navy five
yard-line, recovered by the Midshipmen to preserve the victory.

Noteworthy
The Big 12 continues with the nation’s best non-conference record at 26-2.
The 26-2 non-conference record is also the Big 12’s best tally in the month of
September.
Michigan’s Denard Robinson led the conference in rushing again last week,
moving into second place on the Big Ten’s all-time list for rushing yards by a
quarterback.
Every Big 12 team will complete the regular season non-conference slate with a
winning record for just the second time. The last time is happened was in 2004.
The Big 12 continues to lead the nation with seven undefeated teams.
Some of the stingiest defenses reside in the Big Ten. The conference boasts
seven of the nation’s 25 stingiest defenses, each allowing 16 points or less per
game. These teams are Wisconsin, Michigan State, Penn State, Illinois, Michigan,
Ohio State and Purdue.
Here’s a look at some notes from the Big Ten and Big 12 Conferences:

No. 15 Baylor at Kansas State
Sat., Oct. 1, 12:30 p.m. (ESPN)
Baylor quarterback Robert Griffin III is the nation’s most
accurate passer, but will have his work cut out for him
against Kansas State’s defense that ranks as one of the
best in the country. Griffin is coming off a career-high six
touchdown performance last week as the Bears
defeated Rice, 56-31. The Wildcats look to stay
undefeated after a road win in Miami last weekend.
No. 13 Clemson at No. 11 Virginia Tech
Sat., Oct 1, 3:00 p.m. (ESPN2)
Clemson faces its first road test of the season when it
plays the defending ACC champion Hokies. The Tigers
hope to keep their offense rolling with Tajh Boyd under
center, who leads the ACC with 13 touchdowns and
1,255 yards. The last time these teams met in
Blacksburg, in 2006, Virginia Tech defeated Clemson 24-7.
No. 3 Alabama at No. 12 Florida
Sat., Oct. 1, 5:00 p.m. (CBS)
Florida’s first year coach Will Muschamp squares off
against former colleague Nick Saban. Muschamp was an
assistant under Saban when he coached at LSU and the
Miami Dolphins. Alabama has one five of the last seven
matchups against the Gators, including last year’s 31-6
victory.

Standings
Tune in for this week’s games that you won’t want to miss (All times MST):
Fiesta Bowl Team of the Week
Northwestern at No. 24 Illinois
Sat., Oct. 1, 9:00 a.m. (ESPN2)
The Fighting Illini look to keep their hot start rolling
as they host in-state rival Northwestern. Illinois has
won its first four games for the first time since 1951.
The Wildcats have quarterback Dan Persa set to
make his season debut after missing an extended
amount of time from tearing his Achilles last
November. Northwestern has won six of the last
eight meetings, including three of four in Champaign.
No. 14 Texas A&M vs. No. 18 Arkansas
(at Arlington, Texas)
Sat., Oct. 1, 9:00 a.m. (ESPN)
Both Texas A&M and Arkansas will try to bounce back
after they each suffered their first loss of the season last week. The Razorbacks look to make it three straight wins against the Aggies and add to their 12-game non-conference win streak in the regular season. Look
for Texas A&M’s defense to step up. They average 4.7 sacks per game, the most of any team in the nation.
Michigan State at Ohio State
Sat., Oct. 1, 12:30 p.m. (ABC)
Michigan State has won 14 of its last 17 games. This
is the 40th meeting between the schools and Ohio
State leads the series 27-12. Spartan head coach,
Mark Dantonio returns to his old stomping grounds
where he served as Ohio State’s defensive
coordinator from 2001-03. He also grew up in
Zanesville, Ohio.
Beating a ranked opponent for the second straight week and gaining a key win over a conference rival enabled the Clemson Tigers
(4-0) to earn the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl National Team of the Week for games of the weekend of Sept. 24. Clemson defeated Florida State, 35-30, on Saturday which extended its home winning streak against the Seminoles to five games. The Tigers defense
held Florida State to 29 rushing yards, helping Clemson start the season 4-0 for the first time since 2007. Quarterback Tajh Boyd threw for three touchdowns, ran for another and topped
the 300-yard passing mark for a second consecutive week. “I’m super excited about how our players keep growing this offense and executing. And we’re only four games into this offense,”
Clemson offensive coordinator Chad Morris said. “It’s crazy.” For more information on the
Tostitos Fiesta Bowl National Team of the Week, go to footballwriters.com or fiestabowl.org.
