Mission Statement

The International Baccalaureate Organization aims to

develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring

young people who help to create a better and more

Objectives of today are to:

learn about the transition from Grade 9 to Grade 10

learn about the MYP Certificate and the teaching

and learning in Grade 10

understand the MYP Grade 10 Schedule and course

options

better understand how to support the students at

home.

SERVICE AND ACTION:

• Aimed at getting all MYP students involved in

service-oriented activities. (Service Learning)

• Is a reportable element for every MYP student at

GWA.

• Not to be confused with CAS (Creativity, Action,

Service)…CAS – DP, SA – MYP.

It’s not about counting hours, it’s about making

the hours count!

Service and Action expectations

• Each MYP student must meet a minimum of four of

the eight SA outcomes over the course of the

academic year.

• Upon completing the activity/activities, students must

add the activity on ManageBac and complete a

reflection based on the learning outcomes they have

chosen.

PERSONAL PROJECT

• The personal nature of the project is important; the project

should be based around a topic that motivates and

interests the student.

• Whatever form the personal project takes, it must allow

the student to investigate and focus on a topic/issue

through a global context.

It has 3 assessed parts: Process Journal, Product, and a

Report.

Personal Project organization and

moderation

Personal project

• Takes place during the final year of the programme

• Detailed guidance in the Projects guide/on MB.

• Official validation of PP grades is mandatory by the IB, and

requires a process of external moderation of the teachers’

internal assessment.

• Supportive organizational structure

• Qualified supervisor to work with each student

THE MYP CERTIFICATE:

Each student must complete the following: five on-screen examinations - eAssessments (including an

interdisciplinary focused exam)

two portfolios - ePortfolios (one to count towards the MYP

Certficate)

The Personal Project

Completion of the required outcomes in Service as Action

Students must earn a 3 or above on

eAssessments, the ePortfolio and Personal

Project for an MYP Certificate to be awarded.

The MYP eAssessments and

ePortfolios

• embody the MYP at the core of the programme and are built on the

development of learning in the MYP through Global Contexts and

Conceptual Understandings

• provide external results in line with IB expectations and will support the

decisions our students are making in further education (IBDP and IBCP)

and their future

• focus on conceptual learning which allows students to organize ideas

within and across subject areas.

• extend learning transfer that will extend beyond the classroom and

beyond the summative testing point to future learning.

• Set with a Global Context

• Subject areas include: • Language and Literature

• Included is additional Interdisciplinary exam,

which will encompass two disciplines as part of the

final evaluation for the IB MYP Certificate.

ePortfolios

• ePortfolio subjects include:

• Language Acquisition (French and Spanish)

• Physical and Heath Education

• Design

• Arts (Music, Drama and Visual Arts)

• Personal Project

• Completed in class as a 20 hour unit, set out by the IB with Global

Context.

• Time-frame (January- March)

• Set against a specific Global Context, and is uses criterion-related

assessment

• Moderated on site by IB teachers

• uploaded portfolios to the IB
