GEOLOGICAL REPORT ON THE
QUEENSBOROUGH TALC PROPERTY
ELZEVIR TOWNSHIP
HASTINGS COUNTY

BY
RECEIVERA,-n Z Q1987J

A. G. MENARD
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY:
In June of this year I was commissioned by your company to conduct a geological
survey and diamond drilling program on those lands being lots 15 to 18 in the first
concession of Elzevir township, Hastings County. I may now report that the explor
ation program has been completed and I have enclosed my report for your consideration.
A detailed geological survey was carried for the purpose of obtaining additional in
formation on the talc-bearing rocks. A survey grid was established in the study area.
A geological map on the scale of one meter proportional to one hundred meters was
prepared.
To determine the distribution and disposition of the ore zones, subsurface explor
ation was also completed. Diamond drill records are included as an appendix to this
report.
Preliminary results indicate that sizable tonnages of commercial grade talc may be
recovered from this property. It is the writers recommendation that additional
field exploration and laboratory work be carried out during the next year. This
work will yield a great deal of useful information and should lead to a comprehensive
appraisal of the distribution tonnages, tenor and potential markets for the talc.
Respectfully submitted,
Anthony Menard
Introduction
This report has been prepared at the request of Twin Buttes Exploration Inc. in
order to evaluate the talcose rocks in the Queensborough claim group, Hastings
County, Ontario.
Location and Access
The talc property lies in the west portion of Elzevir township, Hastings County.
The general location is identified on Figure 1. Access to the area is by Hastings
County Road 20 and the Queensborough-Cooper sideroad. Numerous township roads
also bisect the study area.
Property Status
The Queensborough talc prospect consists of seven contiguous unpatented mining
claims. All unpatented mining claims are registered with the Mining Recorder for
Eastern Ontario. Details are as follows:

History and Previous Work
The earliest report of work done on the property appears in ODM Vol. 34, Part 6
1930. The report refers to the talc mineralization in the Madoc and surrounding
areas. No production of talc has occurred on the property but numerous reports
since the 1930's (Dillon and Barron 1982, Lumbers 1964, Vershuren 1982) have
examined the talcose rocks.

GEOLOGY;
The property is located in the Grenville subprovince of the Canadian Shield. All
bedrock identified is of Precambrian age. No extrusive rocks were recognized. This
section of the report outlines the rock associations present in the study area.
TABLE OF FORMATIONS;
The following table of formations which is the basis for the legend on the geologi
cal map lists the main rock types or groups present. The order in the legend does
not imply geochronological order since most of these groups probably include rocks of
two or more different ages.
TABLE OF FORMATIONS
Cenozoic
Pleistocene:Recent swamps and stream deposits, sand, gravel
Unconformity
Precambrian
Felsic to Intermediate Intrusive Rocks Granite, Granodiorite, Granite Gneiss
Intrusive Contact
MetavolcanicsAmphibolite, Chlorite amphibolite, Amphibolite Schist
DESCRIPTION OF FORMATIONS;
Intrusive Rocks; Granite, Granodiorite, Granite Gneiss
In this group are included granitic rocks consisting mainly of mediuftHgrained, light
to pinkish coloured biotitic granite and granodiorite gneiss. Pink to reddish felds
par, biotite, quartz and hornblende are the main constituents of the rock. This unit
is commonly referred to as the Elzevir granite batholith.
Metavolcanics;
Subdivisions within the metavolcanics were identified in the field and are designated
on the map as Schist l,2,and 3. A description of each type follows; Schist l is typi
cally fine-grained, green to black in colour and consists primarily of amhibole, quartz
anf feldspar. Schist 2 is similar to Schist l, however the amphibole is chloritized,
resulting in the rock having a slightly greener colour and softer form. Schist 3 is
much softer than the previously described rock. It contains, in varying amounts, amphi
bole, chlorite, talc and serpentine. It has a rusty red surface appearance due to en
richment of iron and a distinctive texture which is similar to coarse animal hide.
The zones of Schist 3 are commonly found grading into the talc rich rocks.
The talc-bearing zones ( identified as TC on maps ) are located along the contact halo
of the granite and metavolcanic units. The talcose sections vary in width from 1m to
25m, and in length from 10m to 60m. Structurally, the talc zones fold isoclinally a-
round cores of serpentinite which is probably the parent rock. The talc is fine to
medium-grained, pale grey to pinkish grey in colour and very soft. Preliminary results
from the geological survey indicate a number of talc zones in the claim group. Since
many of these zones are located in low-lying areas, outcrop exposure was often quite
poor. It is therefore necessary to direct further exploration to the subsurface de
lineation of the talc sections in these areas. The present mapping will provide a
guideline for preparing diamond drill target sites.
ORIGIN OF THE TALC DEPOSITS; PARAGENETIC ASSOCIATIONS
The deposits of talc at this -property probably have originated from colloidal solutions
through reactions between magnesium and silica in a hydrothermal environment. The
hydrothermal solutions containing Si02 or C02 are associated with the acid intrusive
(Elzevir Batholith) which is in contact with the serpentinite. The following zonal se
quence is postulated: Granite- amphibolite (hornblende) zone - serpentine zone
zone of chloritized schist and finally a "true" talc zone. The zoning is usually irre
gular and locally, incomplete. It is however evident that the talc occurs in lenses and
pods which envelope a core of serpentinite.
